I readily believe it. Bullying is VERY common in the public school system. The fact that Adam stuck out as being different and also have Aspergers made it even more probable that he was a victim of bullying. The sole root cause of why he did the shooting was because of years of being bullied. The thing is that in many cases bullying is covered up. How it works in many school systems is that 90% of the school population pretty much bullies a small sliver of people who are different. That was how it was like back in the school system I used to go to.

There are multiple reasons why I would hesitate to believe this story. Had Adam been regularly beaten up by classmates, Nancy would have done something about it. She did not shy away from litigation and would not just have considered suing the school. She would have sued. She filed a lawsuit against her employer and won a settlement when she felt that she was wronged by them. Aside from that, Nancy was very involved in and kept a close eye on all aspects of Adam's life, especially his education. If he was coming home from school with mysterious bruises, I don't believe she would let it continue. She would have removed him from school like she did multiple times later on in his life. She would never have allowed him to be physically abused at school after the first suspected incident.
In addition, Adam's father and brother said he was very happy at Sandy Hook. It was only around the age of 11 or 12 that he really started to have trouble with school and his behavior began to change. Peter never mentioned in his public interview that Adam had been physically bullied either, and he was still in regular contact with his son through his elementary school years. Finally, Nancy never referenced these supposed bruises from bullying in her emails and there were excerpts released which dated all the way back to 1999, his first year at the school. She did discuss annoyance with the school, but for other reasons.
All in all, it seems farfetched to me that Adam was being physically bullied by classmates and that nothing was done about it. The school system frequently fails in these situations but I don't see how it would have gotten past Nancy without some direct (and probably nearly hysterical) response to these alleged incidents, given her zealous attempts to ensure that Adam's academic needs were met and that he was always safe and comfortable. Nancy did worry that Adam would be bullied at school and so did Adam, according to her, so I can't see how something this bad could have happened when he was this young without her telling everyone she knew and intervening by changing Adam's school situation immediately.

I'm no expert on this case but she can't have been keeping that close an eye on him, surely? I thought she barely saw him for months and he just emailed her stuff now and again?

You're right that Adam and Nancy were communicating by email later on in his life but this was supposed to be during his elementary school years. I don't know that they ever had a close relationship in the traditional sense but as a child, Nancy didn't like to let Adam out of her sight. A classmate said that he attended a birthday party and Nancy stayed the entire time. I also remember a story about Adam's time on a baseball team in second or third grade where she saw a teammate say something to Adam and demanded to know what it was because she was afraid that he was being bullied. I don't see how severe bullying could go on for any length of time with a mother who was so overprotective that she was constantly speaking to school staff and going as far as changing his school or even allowing him to stay home when she felt that it was too much for him to handle.

Are we saying that there was some sort of paranoia disorder with Nancy or just that she was an overprotective mother?

Nancy was an overprotective mother and certainly paranoid in some ways. The issue with Nancy was that she was so overbearing that she likely tried to micromanage parts of Adam's life that Adam did not want to have messed with. Adam explicitly said to a friend who he knew and hanged out with at the theater he went to up until June 2012, that he had a "strained" relationship with his mother. I think bullying did go on albeit maybe not on a physical level but more on a psychological and verbal level. When I was in school many eons ago, I had been occasionally physically bullied but it was fairly rare compared to the constant daily onslaught of verbal insults, yelling across the cafeteria, paper balls being thrown at me, book checking, blocking my locker, or trying to get in my way so I am late for a class ect. Basically just constant harassment and psychological torture.
