PostSubject: I'm Not Ashamed Question   I'm Not Ashamed Question Icon_minitimeWed Oct 18, 2017 9:31 am

I have not seen this film. I watched the Cinema Snob review and listened to the God Awful Movies podcast review (which is an excellent podcast)

So if Rachel was dating Nick at the time of the shooting, did they just make up that whole love triangle thing?

I remember a few scenes from Rachel's Tears which I read when it came out, the Subway sandwich shop scene was in the book, but I'm not sure who those other guys were supposed to be.

Lots of things were overly exaggerated and slightly fictional in that movie, so it could be made up.

i've never seen the movie myself, but i think the religious propaganda holds little water when it comes to this event and keeping it factual. i don't really bother with it.

Honestly who Rachel was dating or whatever is not the biggest inaccuracy regarding that film.

Oh no, the whole thing was a mess. You don't watch the movie to learn about what really happened at Columbine.

Oddly enough the person they actually asked about God ended up living...

I really liked the videos The Bible Reloaded (Hugo and Jake) did on the movie...they are some of my favorite atheist youtubers.

I'm Not Ashamed Question Empty
PostSubject: I think what's funnier   I'm Not Ashamed Question Icon_minitimeFri Oct 20, 2017 8:12 pm

Nick has been replaced in the film by a gangly Asian kid who giggles a lot and can't stop smiling. That's probably the funniest thing going on in that movie regarding Rachel's love life.

I also laughed very hard at the "confrontation" scene between the poor homeless guy and the snotty theater guy who looks like Adam Scott, when he tells him "I think Rachel can take care of HERSELF!" and the other guy grabs him by the collar and there's almost a fist fight.

The real reason to watch that film is to catch all the amusing little allusions to all the Columbine lore and videos especially. One scene has Eric spinning something around on a table like we've seen. There's a (terrible) remake of "Hitmen For Hire" in there. And at the beginning of this clip you can see "Dylan" shoot Rachel a little look, an allusion to the stories we all know about Dylan being in Rachel's

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

While it isn't a terribly good film, having watched it twice I can't *entirely* write it off as some big hideous joke. It's not "Guyana: Cult Of The Damned" or that cheap TV movie about the DC Sniper that I watched once (no really.) It did at least try to give Rachel some depth as a "character" instead of just being some hagiography.

I saw their version of Hitmen for Hire, it did not capture the spirit of it. I actually like that video a lot, mostly for the OOOOOoooOOO! They made it so much more dark and ominous.

I don't think Dylan had a crush on Rachel, I do believe the sound booth story Devon told, about rushing around to help fix the tape when it messed up because that was his job and of course he'd be mad, he was a perfectionist.

Also most portrayals of Dylan usually amount to him going "Yea" 'Oh" and "Huh" I think he knows a couple more words than that.

Nick was a gangly kid who laughed a lot... Eric put super glue in his house locks and set fire to his plants for this very reason. Nick being Asian in the film was the only thing inaccurate with his character.

I didn't really finish my sentence in that post for some reason. No, he didn't have a crush on her--but the look he gives her is kind of "I know you" and he did know her. A little bit. I think Marla Foust is the mystery girl.

As for his portrayal in the movie, even with minimal dialogue, they did bother to make Dylan the "nice one," so that's what the lore-mythology about Columbine has been cemented as: Dylan's the nice one. I think I would have had a seizure if the movie had made allusions to what he said to Isaiah Shoels.

Nick did look like a goof in most high school pics of him, with that silly grin and all. I'll never forget "everyone at our school hates this immature little f*ggot" or whatever it was. Terrible thing to say about one's old buddy huh...

This is just one of the many things that reinforces my belief that Eric was very petty minded. The very thing that made him like Nick likely ended up being the only thing Eric could find to hate about him later on.

Nick was still friends with Brooks right?

He was the one that used to hang out with them in the library Freshman year?

LOL, now the whole Cullen "dyad" theory is in my head for comedy purposes, imagine Eric trying to "make" Nick Baumgart go on a shooting rampage.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] Yes, he was friends with Brooks. They were on the school's Forensics Team together. He stated he thought if Dylan had any reason to be mad at him, the only thing he could think was because he and Brooks were still friends.

Interestingly, Nick and Brooks have similar stories that both involve having classes with Eric and reminiscing about old memories when they used to be closer in the years before.

Was the play supposed to be Smoke in the Room?

They missed out on some ominous foreshadowing since Dylan did lights for it.

I'm listening to the review again from God awful movies for shits and giggles.

They said the conversation about God in the smoker's pit was with Dylan, wasn't that supposed to be a Brooks type character? He said in no easy answers it he talked about religion with her.

That character is almost CERTAINLY Brooks.

Richard Castaldo has been replaced by someone of a different name too, and Rachel's reasons for having lunch with him have been changed.

I have no idea what actual Columbine students were used as the basis for Rachel's friends, particularly the goth one.

Yep they re-enacted Brooks' story in his book about how after a debate once at another school they shared a smoke and discussed religion/atheism.

Someone on the old CRTF/Echoes of Columbine forum who claimed to be a friend of Rachel said that where Rachel and Richard were shot, that was a spot his/her group of friends would usually meet up before moving on to another spot in the school as a group for lunch.

When Rachel's close friends were protesting the MANY inaccuracies of it, that should have been the first clue the movie was complete bullshit. Rolling Eyes

I kind of wish someone would do another movie, but without the religious slant and with way more accuracy. Not specifically about Rachel...just a well-researched film to settle some of the untruths that still stand about Columbine. I think there can be a way to do it to honor the victims and not glorify the killers. What do you guys think?

I think it can be done. I'd love to learn more about Kelly and have people learn about Mr.Sanders and his heroics .

I think the issue with E&D if you want to dispel misconceptions about them you'd have to make them somewhat sympathetic in some ways. I like that discussion though how would you do it? What would you put in? What would you to leave out?

I want a multi day, Mini series type documentary on Columbine. One that tells EVERYTHING from every single angle. Not just from a religious "She said yes" stand point, not just from the view of Eric was evil and Dylan was depressed, etc.

I want experts on both sides laying out their opinions and findings on Eric and Dylan, giving all possible sides of the story. It would be nice to have something that wasn't biased in one way or another.

It's true that humanizing E&D could be seen as glorifying them. You also don't want to write them off as born monsters without showing their decline into what they ultimately became. It would honestly be tough NOT to piss someone off.

Different stories from different perspectives would be a nice idea.

I do like the differing perspective sides. That would make an interesting documentary.

I think showing E and D's decline would be the smartest thing to do.

There will always be someone who thinks you glorifying them If you say anything other than they were evil and now rotting in hell.

Love TBR! Honestly I'm just glad they linked it because so many people probably see the clips and think it's a serious video without realizing the context. They were literally making a video about bullies in their school...

TBR is great!! I was not surprisingly disappointed in the way the presented HFH in the movie. I think Eric got a pretty good grade on the project to begin with, Erik V is hysterical AND at the end Eric and Dylan ARE the bad guys. They decide to kill Erik V which shows you not to hire Hitmen to take out bullies...

Say Goodnight Kevin is a good Christian movie review channel that does I'm Not Ashamed too, but it's done in the same spirit as TBR
