PostSubject: What was the point of the lie?   What was the point of the lie? Icon_minitimeThu Oct 26, 2017 11:05 am

I was thinking of Brooks and how he said it was Dylan who gave him Eric's website (when Eric started threatening Brooks) and asked him not to tell Eric that Dylan was the one who gave it to them. Now, we know that Aaron was the one who found it and let Brooks know.

I think it was junior year that the website was discovered by the Browns? So Brooks kept up that lie for a long time. My timeline could be wrong, someone with a better memory of the timeline could help Smile

Why would he say it was Dylan? What was the end goal to this I wonder?

When did he originally start the lie? Did he initially tell his parents it was Dylan, or did his story only change after 4/20?

I think Brooks' whole thing was to make himself into a bigger role for the event. In his book he stretches the truth many times.

The website lie, the lie about when the snowball meets windshield lie, when he reconciled with E&D..... I think he just wants to be more involved. I think he likes the fame that comes along with Columbine and he feeds off of it. No matter what he says.

My thoughts exactly. Which is why I think the Dylan story only started after the shooting. Unless there is evidence of Judy or Randy prior to 4/20/99 saying Brooks told them Dylan showed him the site.

To my knowledge the original police report came from Aaron which is how we know to begin with. I don't believe I have ever seen any official evidence or evidence from the Brown's prior to the 20th to substantiate that it was Dylan

I'll have to go back to A Mothers Reckoning but whenever they did Frankenstein at CHS is ariund the time Dylan and Brooks became friendly again. Sue said they hadn't been close since elementary school. It sounds like that may have been around the time Dylan supposedly gave him the URL. However she didn't hear of this until after 4/20.

Brooks does seem to want to be more involved then he is. I'd much rather hear from Zach and his friendship with the boys.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] Zack and Nate would be really interesting to hear from, but they aren't interested in sharing and I can't blame them. It's funny how the people who probably know the most try to stay quiet, while people who were a little more far removed try to associate themselves more with E&D.

Agreed. I think other than Dylan's mom, we've heard the most from Devon. She's open about her friendship with him. I think Nate did an interview years ago but is now pretty quiet about the whole thing. There's also a whole lot of people who don't want to hear the good things about them. It's hard to imagine them being anything other than monsters. If you do that, you have to consider what even the seemingly sweetest person can be capable of.

This is very true, and something Sue touches on in her book. "If it were my kid/friend/sibling, I would see the signs, I would be different."

From what I have read from Zach and Nate, after the 20th both seemed to realize that they did not have the relationship they thought they had with the boys esp. Dylan.

It sounded to me like they were then mostly "school" friends. Not doing too much with them anymore after 99 hit.

I agree that Brooks stretched the truth, and sometimes outright lied about several things regarding his connection to Columbine.

He did in fact use his on/off/on again relationship to E&D for his own twisted, sometimes perverted, personal gain in the years following the shootings.

He is a cockroach in my opinion, yet I am still grateful that he did write a book about Columbine, even if he sprinkled it with his own version of things. The book wasn't all that bad as long as you knew that you were reading something written by a self admitted liar, and was familiar with Columbine in general. Haha

I also wouldn't mind hearing what Chris Morris, or even Erik Veik would have to say on the subject.

I was under the impression Zach and Dylan were still taking on the phone almost every night, but it may have been casual. Talking about school and video games, not as deep as it used to be.

By junior year it seems like it was Eric and Dylan and everyone else were just peripheral. Was it Devon who said if they wanted you to know something, you'd know but if they didn't you were shut down really quick.

I know firsthand the shadiness that is Brooks Sad

It does irritate me that he acts like a "survivor" the kids in the library are way more survivors than him.

Erik V would be fascinating to hear from! Especially the anger he had going into his senior year and the threats he made.

I know they did the fantasy baseball. I think it was just more of a surface relationship
