Seems like ANOTHER domestic situation, assholes solving anger issues with partners using guns.

Ok, so one has died, started off domestic, turned into a police shooting.

Well what I gathered from the brief press conference was this:

The cops had been at the apartment complex earlier for a "noise complaint". But when they arrived there was no noise.

Later, when they got the call of a "domestic disturbance" they revisited the apartment complex.

The shooter and his roommate were inside the apartment.

Apparently, the cop(s) were having discussion inside the apartment with the shooter/roommate before the shooting started.

1 cop was hit inside the apartment - other officers were wounded during a gun battle.

Later, when the cops made their approach to try to get the downed officer inside is when the shooter got shot/killed by cops.

Who on earth thinks that they will win a gun fight, with the POLICE?

They probably don't think they will win but they will at least try to kill some cops before going down.

Many shooters (Eric & Dylan included) have exchanged gunfire with cops....

Even people who killed cops only had gimmicks and tricks to get away from the Cops. If only briefly.

Justin Bourque had a multitude of weapons, survival gear and hideouts.
Raoul Moat had a hideout, survival skills and a getaway vehicle.
Dale Cregan had criminal experience and knew how the english police worked, he also had EXPLOSIVES.
Micah Johnson had a sniper rifle and stealth.

Then again, incompetent murderers is a good thing I guess.

Colorado gunman, 37-year-old Matthew Riehl, who killed deputy was an Iraq veteran.

According to a police statement, an initial call was made to police at approximately 3 a.m. local time regarding a “verbal disturbance” involving two males.

“Both males were at the apartment, one male said the suspect was acting bizarre and might be having a mental breakdown,” said a police statement. The officers cleared the scene at approximately 3:44 a.m.

Deputies were called back to the area at around 5:17 a.m., were let into the apartment by a male, and shooting commenced at about 5:56 a.m.

Zachary Parrish, 29, was rendered unconscious by the shooting and didn’t survive his injuries, Douglas County Sheriff Tony Spurlock said. Four other officers by the names of Mike Doyle, 28, Taylor Davis, 30, Jeff Pelle 32 and SWAT Officer Tom O’Donnell, 41, were injured but are in stable condition.

He was very Prolific on youtube, knowing what he did, it's kind of odd seeing his youtube content,
Unlike Elliot, Randy and William his videos are not alarming, there were no warning signs that he'd attempt to carry out murder.

He seems like a normal guy, although, his shit eating grin, combined with the fact he commit murder, does make me want to shove a garden rake up this guy's arse.

One thing of note, he would constantly upload PS4 gaming vids. But 2 days before the attack, he stopped uploading them, I think this is when he began hastily planning, or something happened to him then that made him want to carry out the attack.

Spurlock said Riehl’s roommate, who has not been identified, gave deputies a key to enter the apartment about 5:35 a.m. Riehl, who knew they were coming, ambushed the deputies after they entered the apartment.

SWAT officers entered the house at 7:30 a.m. and exchanged gunfire with Riehl.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colorado, Dec. 31, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — The shooting death of a Colorado sheriff’s deputy was streamed live by the assailant on social media.

One sheriff’s deputy was killed in the incident and four others were wounded. Two civilians were also wounded.

Gephardt Daily obtained more than an hour of video which shows the lead-up to the attack, as well the shooting itself.

The video also shows the gunman, identified as 37-year-old Matthew Riehl, in the aftermath of the initial ambush during which time he shoots a wounded deputy at point blank range.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office confirmed it was aware of the video and that it had requested it be removed from Periscope, the platform upon which it was streamed.

Early in the video, Riehl — who was later killed by law enforcement officers — became angry when deputies came to his apartment door to talk about a restraining order he wished to file against his domestic partner.

Riehl refused to cooperate, demanding to speak with the deputies’ supervisor. He also demanded to see a search warrant, and refused to let officers into his apartment.

The deputies retreated after the suspect shut the door and announced repeatedly he was going to bed.

The deputies ultimately returned, along with backup. According to Douglas County Sheriff Tony Spurlock, officers were let into the apartment by someone inside, and had just made contact with the Diehl in his bedroom when he suddenly opened fire.

One of the deputies was then mortally wounded. The three others were also hit, but managed to crawl from the apartment.

While the live stream played out on the Internet, the gunman continued to rant before approaching the gravely wounded deputy and shooting him multiple times at point blank range.

Moments later, he rummaged through the downed deputy’s pockets, saying that he was looking for a search warrant.

“There’s no warrant,” he exclaimed. “It’s illegal search and seizure! This is a classic courtroom defense!”

He then shot the deputy again.

As the video progresses, the gunman’s audio becomes muffled. He’s then seen wearing a gas mask while he appears to wait for more officers to arrive.

The gunman continued to fire multiple weapons throughout the morning.

He was ultimately shot and killed by police, one of whom was wounded in the exchange of gunfire.

Late Sunday afternoon the deputy who lost his life was identified as 29-year-old Douglas County Sheriff’s Deputy Zackari Parrish. He was described as a veteran law enforcement officer, and leaves behind a wife and two children.

The other injured law enforcement officers have been identified as Deputy Michael Doyle, 28, Deputy Taylor Davis, 30, Deputy Jeffrey Pelle, 32, and Castle Rock Police Officer Tom O’Donnell, 41. All of them are described in stable condition.

VA document says gunman had fled mental ward

A Veterans Affairs document obtained by The Associated Press says the gunman who killed a Colorado sheriff’s deputy escaped from the mental health ward of a VA hospital in Wyoming in 2014 but was located and returned.

The document was provided to the AP by a congressional aide on condition of anonymity because the aide was not authorized to release it.

The document was first reported by The Denver Post.

Colorado authorities say Matthew Riehl fatally shot Douglas County Deputy Zackari Parrish and wounded four other officers on Sunday. Riehl was killed by a SWAT team.

The VA document says Riehl was hospitalized at the veterans medical center in Sheridan, Wyoming, in April 2014 after a psychotic episode. It says he escaped but was found and brought back.

The document identifies Riehl as an Army veteran who was honorably discharged.
