The report from the State's Attorney Office says that twelve children survived. One from Room 8 and eleven from Room 10.
There were sixteen children and two adults in Room 8. The surviving child exited the classroom after the police arrived. Both adults and fourteen children were dead upon the arrival of officers and a fifteenth was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The story is that six year old Jesse Lewis screamed for his classmates to run as Adam was reloading and these children ran past him and out the door. Jesse did not make it out. At some point after Adam finished reloading, Jesse was shot in the head. Two more children survived, uninjured in the restroom, and were found by police. Both of the adults were dead and four of the five children were dead upon the arrival of the police, with another one who was transported to the hospital and pronounced dead.
