Shooting at Great Mills High School in Maryland

Great Mills High School in Maryland was on lockdown after a shooting on Tuesday morning, school officials confirmed.

The incident was contained and the St. Mary's Sheriff's Office was on the scene, the school said on its website. Maryland State Police also told Fox News they were responding to the incident.

The Sheriff's Office warned parents to not "respond to the school" but instead go to Leonardtown High School, where students will be transported.

NBC Washington reported multiple injuries, but that was not immediately confirmed by authorities.

The school is located about 60 miles from Washington, D.C.

March 20 (Reuters) - Several people were shot at a Maryland high school on Tuesday, local news media reported, after school officials confirmed the campus was on lockdown and the incident had been "contained."

Multiple people were shot and their condition was not yet clear, ABC News reported, citing the St. Mary's County sheriff.

It occurred amid a re-energized national debate over school shootings in the United States following an attack on Feb. 14 at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, where a gunman killed 17 students and faculty.

A student who said his name was Jonathan Freese said in a telephone interview on CNN that he had been on lockdown with classmates for nearly an hour, but he did not hear gunshots himself. The interview ended as police came to his classroom door.

i just heard 2 people got shot and the gunman was shot by a school resource officer

all 3 are in critical condition

Its so scary to send your kids to the school because omg you need to explain your own kids how to act when there is a crazy gunman in school.

St. Mary's County Sheriff's spokeswoman Cpl. Julie Yingling says there have been no fatalities in the Tuesday morning shooting at Great Mills High School.

Yingling says the two victims were shot, but she doesn't know how the shooter was injured. She also didn't have the identities of the any of the three injured.

She says all three had been transported to hospitals.

Well this one hits way to close to home for me. I actually live in the county (Calvert) next over, so this high school is close to me and I even occasionally pass is it from time to time. In fact a good friend of mine lives in the trailer park right across from the school.

A gunman who shot and wounded two students at Great Mills High School in Maryland was killed Tuesday after engaging an armed school resource officer, an official said.

The shooter was the only fatality. A female student was critically injured and a male student was also shot but is in stable condition at a hospital, authorities said.

"Our school resource officer was alerted to the event. he pursued the shooter, engaged the shooter, fired a round at the shooter," St. Mary's County Sheriff Tim Cameron said. "The shooter fired a round as well. In the hours and days to come, we'll be able to determine if our school resource officer's round struck the shooter."

The resource officer, who wasn't immediately identified, was not injured.

Two students were injured and a third, the gunman, has died after a shooting at Great Mills High School in Southern Maryland on Tuesday morning, according to the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office.

The shooter has been identified as 17-year-old Austin Wyatt Rollins. The two students who were injured — a 14-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl — were being treated at local hospitals, officials said. The female victim is in critical condition.

Sheriff Tim Cameron said said there is an “indication that a prior relationship existed between the shooter and the female victim.” Officers are working to determine if that was part of the motive.

A school resource officer fired at Rollins, who almost simultaneously fired back with a handgun, Cameron said. The school resource officer, identified as Blaine Gaskill, was not injured, Cameron said.

"He pursued the shooter and engaged the shooter," Cameron said of Gaskill.

The male victim is in good condition and is being treated at MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital. The girl was initially brought to MedStar, officials said, but was later transferred to University of Maryland Prince George’s Hospital Center and is in critical condition.

It’s exactly one month before the 19th anniversary. I imagine schools will be on high alert

The shooter is apparently Sam Hyde Austin Wyatt Rollins, a 17 year old student. He used a Glock pistol (probably a 9mm, like a 19 or 17).

looks like he shot his former gf and her current boyfriend? although the boy was 14 and she was 16 so he might have gotten hit w/ a stray bullet.

austin died and his gf is in critical condition and has life threatening injuries. the 14 year old has minor injuries which reinforces my belief that he was hit with a stray bullet.
