| [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]Students of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., are not happy about the new clear backpacks they’ve been given upon their return – and they’re letting faculty, and the world, know it. The backpacks, which were handed out Tuesday, are considered an effort on the school’s part to prevent future active-shooter incidents at the school like the one that took place on Feb. 14 that killed 17 people, the school’s superintendent Robert Runcie said. It’s clear, however, that the students at Marjory Stoneman aren’t a fan of the backpacks. Some have even gone as far as to protest the school’s decision to make the bag mandatory, and have posted their demonstrations on social media. At this point I feel these kids will protest every damn thing that is mentioned or brought up as a means to protect them OTHER then the complete ban of guns. |

Because there is absolutely no other way that a shooter could secretly carry a gun. Am I right ? Jokes aside, if a shooter is smart enough he / she would still find a way to make some carnage. For example here in Italy, in high school, people arrive even 40 minutes before the start of the lessons. If that's the same thing for the U.S.A, a shooter could simply start firing at people 10 minutes before the lessons even start (When there is the highest number of students waiting for the bell that indicates the start of the lessons to be heard) and that would make even lock ups useless (Because nobody is in their classroom). |

| Like, I don't think any shooters really just have the gun hidden in the back pack, its like they all walk up to the school shooting. |

But even if they achieve the objective of making impossible to carry a firearm secretly on the school ground, there is no reason to think that shooters wouldn't simply shoot anyway in particular moments of the day were carrying a gun secretly or not wouldn't change anything.

Hell, it doesn't even have to be like that, the shooter could just wait until school is over and everyone starts leaving the building to open fire. _________________ "My guns are the only things that haven't stabbed me in the back." -Kip Kinkel

Hell, it doesn't even have to be like that, the shooter could just wait until school is over and everyone starts leaving the building to open fire. In my opinion it really depends on the planimetry of the structure. Also it would be much more effective doing it in the early morning and not when everyone is going home for a couple of reasons: -Inside the school the victims would have less space to move, that would secure some hits and the panic might lead to some students to injure themselves or others accidentally, especially if they are concentrated in an area of the building -Often, some classes go home an hour or so earlier than the others for several reasons (Such as professors being sick and the lack of personnel to fill the role) and this decreases the amount of possible victims (Less people = Less chances to injure or kill someone) -Some classes might to a field trip in the early morning; I stated above what it means (Less people = Less chances to injure or kill someone) The shooter has just more targets avaible in the early morning. Anyway, I agree with what you stated. A complex plan isn't really a big requirement to do that kind of atrocious action anyway.

| Either way the clear backpacks are useless, I believe we can all agree on that.
Also if someone truly wants to do harm, then sooner or later they will find a way around the protective measures that are put into place. |

Even most protective measures other than these transparent backpacks aren't really that useful or their effectiveness is limited to a certain period of time, location etc. |

| The school is powerless on this. Only thing that keeps this a rule is compliance with it.
If everyone said to hell with the rule and wore their own backpacks, they wouldn't do anything. | |

If everyone said to hell with the rule and wore their own backpacks, they wouldn't do anything. Agreed. But seriously I think some of those kids will continue to wear them just so they can actively protest having to wear them. |
