Authorities say a suspect is in custody after an active shooter situation at Noblesville West Middle School, according to Fox 59. Police are still investigating the report.

Police are investigating an active shooter situation at Noblesville West Middle School. Sources tell us a suspect is in custody.

School officials tell us shots were reported, and there are reports of one injury. The school is on lockdown.

The middle school students are being evacuated to Noblesville High School.

The school is located at 19900 Hague Road. We have a crew headed to the scene now, and we will update this story as soon as more information is made available.

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. — Shots have been reported at a middle school in Noblesville, Indiana, according to a receptionist for the school district.

One person is injured, receptionist Jackie Chatteron said Friday. It’s not clear if the person was wounded by gunfire.

The school, Noblesville West Middle School, is on lockdown, Chatterton said.

According to multiple sources the shooter was taken into custody.




Well if not injured by gunfire then just how were they injured?

"WISH-TV reported at least two people were in critical condition following the incident. The victims were said to be an adult and a 13-year-old female."

Victims are a thirteen year old girl and a science teacher who wrestled the gun away from the shooter. Both are in critical condition. The shooter is in seventh grade.

"The only people injured in Friday's incident at Noblesville West Middle School were the teenage student and the teacher, according to Jowitt. Local TV station WTTV, citing a source at the scene, said the student victim suffered a fractured ankle."

The police chief said the school, attended by more than 1,350 students, has been cleared, but he did not provide details of the incident.

“The situation is contained," he said.

The shooting occurred shortly after 9 a.m. EDT (1300 GMT) at the school about 25 miles (40 km) northeast of Indianapolis, and authorities said the school was placed on lockdown.

A student interviewed by WTTV said the shooter entered a science class and the teacher swatted a gun away from the shooter.

Danielle Sirilla, a spokeswoman for Indiana University Methodist Hospital said an adult was taken to the hospital while a teenager was taken to Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health nearby. She said no information was available on their conditions.

A brave science teacher did not hesitate when a student walked into his classroom at Noblesville West Middle School with a pair of handguns and then opened fire.

Jason Seaman, identified by his mother and students as the hero teacher, was shot three times Friday morning as he lunged at the gunman in a bid to protect his class.

The shooter fired off several rounds before “Mr. Seaman started running at him, he’s a teacher, a science teacher — he tackled him to the ground,” a student, who did not wish to be identified told Fox 59.

“He’s a hero. If he didn’t do anything he probably would have continued shooting and a lot more of us would have been injured and possibly killed, so it was just something that most people would not have done but he was really brave to do it. “

His mother, Kristi J. Hubly Seaman, in Facebook post said her son was being treated at the Indiana Universtiy Methodist Hospital for gunshot wounds to his abdomen, hip and forearm.

“Jason is out of surgery and doing well,” she wrote. “PLEASE pray for the student that was also shot.”

A 13-year-old girl also struck in the gunfire Friday morning was transported to Riley Hospital for Children immediately following the incident.

Jeremie Lovall said his daughter, a seventh-grader at the Indiana school, was in the classroom when the shooting unfoled shortly after 9 a.m. She phoned to tell her father she was alright and recalled the horrifying incident.

“She kept saying, ‘I saw my science teacher get shot,” he told the Indy Star.

Another student also in the classroom at the time of the attack told told Fox 59 Seaman “swatted” the guns away from student shooter before tackling him to the ground.

He reportedly encouraged his class to run as he held down the suspect, who was taken into custody near Seaman’s classroom.

Noblesville Police Chief Kevin Jowitt said the Friday morning shooting was resolved “fairly quickly,” with many crediting Seaman with ending the shooting before things turned more violent.

According to his LinkedIn page, Seaman was also the seventh grade football coach at the school, where he has worked as a science teacher for nearly four years.

The family of a girl who was wounded in the shooting at Noblesville West Middle School on Friday morning is thanking well-wishers for their prayers.

In a statement, the Whistler family said their daughter, Ella, is doing well at Riley Hospital for Children and she is stable.

Ella's family went on to say, "We'd like to thank everyone across the country who prayed for our family today. We've felt those prayers and appreciate each of them. We'd also like to thank the first responders, Noblesville police, Indiana State Police and the medical staff and surgeons at Riley."

The statement goes on to ask for privacy for her family as Ella recovers.

Here is the entire statement:

"Our daughter, Ella Whistler, was involved in a horrific shooting today at her school.  We will spend the next days and weeks processing what happened and why.  But first, we wanted to say she is doing well at Riley Hospital for Children.  Her status is critical, yet we are pleased to report she is stable.  We’d like to thank everyone across the country who prayed for our family today.  We’ve felt those prayers and appreciate each of them.  We’d also like to thank the first responders, Noblesville police, Indiana State Police and the medical staff and surgeons at Riley.  Please do not contact our family for further comment at this time.  We appreciate you respecting our privacy as we support Ella in her recovery."

Teacher Jason Seaman and Ella were wounded when another student opened fire.

Seaman is being hailed as a hero for tackling the shooter.  He is hospitalized in good condition.

The suspect has been arrested. He is not being identified because he is a juvenile.

There is no word on a motive for the shooting at this time.
