On the 2nd of August 1980, 85 people were killed by a bomb and over 200 were injured.
The bomb was military tier and the perpetrators were part of a Neo-Fascist movement called "Nuclei Armati Rivoluzionari" (Armed Revolutionari Cores).
One of the victims, the 3 years old Angela Fresu, was literally disintegrated by the explosion (In fact her body was never found).

This is can be considered the Italian Oklahoma City bombing and what could have happened if Anders Breivik would have placed his bomb a little bit better.

This occurred during a particularly intense period for Italian politics that we call "Anni di piombo" (Years of lead) were neo-fascists and communists were committing acts of terrorism and causing havoc.

This is horrible, and I don't understand why it is not known more given the huge number of deaths.

When you wrote "almost forgotten" do you mean in the world or do you think even in Italy it is not remembered enough?

Only a few people who weren't alive at the time actually know about it.
If I asked a random Italian teenager if he knew about the bombing he would probably answer with a "No, I don't".

It is the same in France, we had attacks in the 1980s and in 1995 and people who were not born at the time, especially people born after 2000 never heard of it. They never heard of the Oklahoma City bombing too. I am not old, but I know that thanks to my sordid interest. It is sad, because these events, especially in Bologna since the number of fatalities, shocked so many people and you want the dead to be remembered. The younger generation probably knows of 9/11 only because they had videos, and nowadays people want to be shocked.

This sounds like the kind of turmoil America is headed towards.
