So is there some way we can get rid of those idiots? That whole website of Tumblr is just full of EDGY fangirls.

There's no way to get rid of them completely, if by a miracle you get them off of idolizing H&K, they'll move to Lanza, Cho, Rodger, or the Santa Fe kid.

I find entertainment in some of them. But the flower crowns and snapchat filters are ugh. I stay far away from tumblr. I have found a few true crime blogs that I do enjoy there, however many of those have a no columbine rule

I believe the only way to do it is to get into the heart of the problem of why tvey idolize Eric and Dylan(Im not sure thats the case for all of them).

And this goes back to bullying. They look at Eric and Dylan as heroes because theres this perception that Eric and Dylan fought back against the oppressive system/killed their bullies

But being bullied can be absolutely horrihle to a lot of people. So I think that aiming for the heart of what makes them idolize the killers. Theres probably pain and hurt underneath.

No, you can't prevent people from expressing their opinions, even if their opinions are trash. Just ignore them.

Sometimes the "fangirls" actually do come up with some new information though. Since they have no shame, they often contact people related to the case, and sometimes they actually get a response. Or, they dig up social media accounts, videos, etc. that nobody else has found yet.

What I hate though is that because of Columbiners (and equivalent for other killers), there's a perception among some people that females who are interested in true crime, and particularly in the background and psychopathology of the perpetrator(s), are all a bunch of hybristophiliacs. Which is inaccurate as well as sexist.

Also, the worst is when "fangirls" lie and pretend to have known the perpetrators. That actually happened in a case I am following and it took months to figure it out. It seems to be pretty common, too. That one girl even tricked Cullen into believing she dated Eric Harris. And in the Vladislav Roslyakov case, multiple girls lied and said they dated him, and it wasn't debunked for years.

I allready have enough with Facebook and other social media accounts, and I should stay off social media a bit more.

Scientific research have suggested theres healthy and ub-healthy aspects of social media. I run too much into bigots and right wingers all the time.

A lot of disdain for tumblr among researchers, but there were some very interesting, and well researched, and nicely written blogs out there. Yes, of course, it was a little weird to see between interesting and well researched posts something like "What kind of girls Dylan liked" and "Do you think Eric was a good kisser". Like, seriously? I read some blogs that were transferred to other platforms from tumblr, and rolled my eyes do many times at questions like that.
I never was a part of tumblr tcc community, but i feel sad that so many tumblrs were destroyed. I feel sad about something being erased without a trace.

Those girls adore Eric and Dylan like some other girls adore Justin Bieber or, i don't know, BTS. It's mostly just a phase. But it can be extremely dangerous, if they go too deep.

I think social media is toxic from time to time, but there are pros and cons.

Theres also that bad side to it that people can gravitate to their own little Eccho-Chamber. And than there are actually good social media plattforms that die down, such as Vampirefraks.

Columbiners are just lonely and delusional people IMO.

Come think of it, I read parts of Jack Levins book about murderers. He came to mention why hybristophilia is such a thing, and he thinks that it reflects traditional gender norms +they think that they can fix violent men, they are the only one that understands them etc.

I’m the closest thing to a “fangirl” you’re going to find on here. Still not a fangirl, but formerly active in the tumblr columbine tag.

1) We all knew it was about much more than bullying. It was about the shooters’ dismal view of modern American society. School was a mini-model of that society, to them. That’s why they didn’t go shoot up a 7-11.

2) Change them? Why would anyone want that? Eric and Dylan being 30 different exciting flavors of emotionally disturbed is what made them so interesting! If they weren’t, they wouldn’t have been so relatable.

3) A lot of them aren’t hybristophiliacs. They called themselves that to be edgy when they didn’t fit the definition. What they did have, was homicidal ideation that they struggled to keep under control, by externalizing it onto columbine things.

4) Dylric is my fault. I am the first Dylric shipper, from all the way back in the livejournal days. I will not apologize for any of it (except allowing people to write bottom!eric because that’s way too OOC, even for slash fic about two heterosexual boys.) I still like Dylric, and pairings that remind me of Dylric, because their dynamic was so wonderfully depressing and gory.

5) The only reason tumblr banned so-called glorification of columbine was because of the SJWs, they couldn’t stand to see people acknowledging that violent cis straight white males could have Actual Problems Worth Taking Seriously. And they think their site users are sheep who must be sheltered from anything the slightest bit upsetting.

6) Teenagers. Tell them not to do a thing, they do it at maximum speed on skateboards.

Where did the over-the-top fans go? Bitchute? Onion sites? Is there anywhere that isn’t censoring them?

It's no different to teenage fans obsessing over people who died over 20 years ago and (if they were alive) would be forty years old today.

The problem erupts when you either have a huge dose of mental illness in it(which I assume would be the case for a, lot of hybristophilics). I guess that most of them doesnt hurt other people, yet, I worry on their behalf.

Most of them would never cheer for a school shooting or what Eric and Dylan did. But they feel like they can relate to the bullying narrative. I can understand that. As a kid, going to school was hard enough. You dread the next day and the next day. I havent been bullied to the extreme, but I can understand the pain that many of these Columbiners feel and why they relate to them.

Yet, there is a backside to it, imo. I fail to see how this obsession is healthy. And, in some rare cases it might, in fact, trigger violent crimes.

I think being bullied when you are younger coupled with certain genetics can lead to some catastrophic results. Either it's a hatred that is directed inward (which accounts for many suicides) or it's pushed outward which accounts for several homicides.

It's much rarer for a bully victim to become homicidal but rage can fester and build up over time eventually exploding.

I suspect some workplace killers or serial killers were bullied when they were younger.

That's how I look at it. Fantasy is just that and for most fanfic writers, it's a healthy outlet for them to express themselves. They forge bonds with the other writers/readers. It might even be said that it's healthier to express any inner anger or fantasy/fetish through writing, than it is to hold it in and feel ashamed of.

BTW Not a writer myself, but I support the right of those who are to express themselves as the see fit.

I don't think they are going to go away any time soon, old ones leave and new ones come.
