Those kinds of shootings weren’t too common at the time, so it probably got a lot of publicity. It would be nice to see a famous person up close like that, but I do agree that having him visit just because your school got shot up would be unusual to say the least. Many people idolize celebrities, so when they come to express their condolences that typically makes their fans feel good.

I agree. I was always disturbed by how people treated Nancy Lanza. It's only recently that I've seen the public narrative change to some extent, to admit she was a victim too. I remember in Newtown there was some memorial service where they rang a church bell once for each victim, and they didn't include her in the count. That pissed me off.

People love to blame parents and especially mothers for everything, and in some cases it's warranted. But in this case I think people blamed her because they didn't want to admit that any parent could end up in that situation. She made mistakes, but she was doing the best she could without much help. She revolved her entire life around Adam. I think it's also important to remember that she was being abused by him. So the unwise decisions she made, were made in the "fog of war," so to speak. Unfortunately, in our society, abuse of parents by their children is the only kind of abuse that is not only excused, but also for which the societally accepted response is to blame the victim.
