On February 23rd, 2010 a 33 year old man named Bruco Eastwood visited Dear Creek Middle School, where he attended as a youth. He obtained a visitor badge and talked to staff members in the front office and hallway. He asked one teacher if they attended the school and they said no. He seemed to be in a normal state of mind, even making jokes about how the school probably has "bad kids" there because the school is next to a prison. When the school day ended, Bruco walked to his car and retrieved his father's bolt action rifle that he stole. He asked a group of students if they attended the school. When one of them said yes, he shot the student point blank. "You're all going to die!" he yelled. As students ran screaming, Bruco reloaded once and fired another shot at a girl. Before he could shoot any more rounds, a math teacher at the school ran towards him and tackled him. He was then arrested by the police.
Bruco was eventually found not guilty by reason of insanity. The Jury found out that he had a history of schizophrenia dating back to childhood. However, during the shooting, Bruco was well aware of what he was doing. A motive behind the shooting was that Bruco wanted revenge against student's at the school because he was "bullied by rich kids". The shooting was largely forgotten and received little news coverage likely because both shooting victims survived and the shooter was an adult. Dear Creek Middle School is just 2 miles away from Columbine High School and in the same town: Littleton, Colorado
