Thanks for that find, comrade!
It looks like the medallion was stitched to the boot. It doesn't look like a Doc Martens either. So, it may not have been a statement by Dylan. I always thought it had to be a political statement but it didn't make sense because of the Nazi stuff they professed (still, a lot of what they stated didn't make sense). So, it may simply have been a pair of boots that looked cool and happened to have that medallion already stitched on it?

Wow... Where did you get this? Are you sure it's his?

I was wondering if this is really his boot too. The medallion on it seems awful small.

I saw that same picture on tumblr once and I found. out later on a. website about this that it really was of Dylan, on that same website, is written that the pin is like a Soviet symbol or emblem and in this another site: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] its confirm and there I read that its call "Soviet Red Army Hat Badge"

Thought I read somewhere that Dylan said he put the emblem on his boot to annoy people. So if that's the case it was a political statement, not on behalf of Socialism, but nihilism.

I saw that photo on Tumblr before but I don't why I think it's fake.

I think it is fake too. I am almost certain his boots would be locked up in evidence somewhere until they were released to Dylan's parents and I don't think his parents would release a photo of a boot he wore during the massacre.

The autopsy report says "Present on the left boot was a red star medallion containing a sickle and a hammer."
The word "medallion" suggests something that could not be sewn to the boot. I also remember seeing a picture of Dylan somewhere where the star was visible on his boot and it looked like a pin that he'd attached to the boot with a small chain, not a patch sewn onto the boot itself.

I saw this picture on tumblr too. It was a few months ago and I think it was something along the lines that somebody got boots that matched Dylan's exactly, so I don't think it is really his boot.

I posted the "dylan's boot" photo almost a year ago on Tumblr along with the text. At the time, my feeling was hmmm, this certainly is an interesting find, it could be, but then again, maybe not. However, in studying the actual photographs of Dylan's gorilla boots, you can see he's got some thick, enforced padded material running vertically along the line of where the shoe laces are laced up. They have a very distinctive, specific look for combat boots. In searching around, I haven't found a pair that looks exactly like them, actually! (Maybe someone here can find the exact pair?) And, you can see, Dylan pinned the pretty honkin' huge hammar/sickle star on his boot. It's pretty sizable. Not at all a small stitched on faux pin. So, the pic is debunked!

Apparel in general they were pretty unique I think InFiNiNcEX5 nailed it, it is what he had on his boot in the leaked suicide photo. It's really hard to find what exactly what they were wearing that day right? IIRC this image has been posted around a few times in various sites. It's a shame we don't have the exact name of the dusters they wore or exact boots, utility belts and suspenders ect. The reasoning why they chose whatever they chose is beyond all of us for the foreseeable future, it's a shame we don't know the exact duster design they wore, there are MANY different types of those around. as for the OP picture, who knows. But the photo of them dead as InFiNiNcEX5 posted there is something very very similar there.

unrelated thought: i find it kind of interesting that out of everything he'd choose to put a soviet pin on his boot. i know they were obsessed with hitler and the shit and i might be mistaken here but in my two years of research i've never really heard them mention communism nor the soviets at all.
do you think it's because he was trying to just be an edgelord or was there something i've missed?

It's most likely that he was just being edgy. This was the late 90's, the USSR was still very relevant and Americans felt pretty negatively towards communism waaaay more so than now. The hammer-and-sickle probably held the same amount of significance to him as a swastika, no more than something that provokes people.
Although, I still like to think he was an unironic communist. Just wishful thinking.

Agreed. I think it may be fake. Not 100% ruling it out but I tend to think it's not really Dylan's boot.

Sue said it was Zach or Nate's dad who bought a bunch of them when he was in Russia and brought them back, Dylan was probably trying to be "edgy" and wore it

Honestly, I think he got it just because he thought it looked kind of cool.
