Since mass shooting is associated with fireamrs I think this will be categorized either as mass murder or massacre.

AFAIK Bows are not considered firearms but crossbow are banned.
They did issue a PLIVO, which replaced "shooting occuring" post Utøya, basically when PLIVO is activated it goes to Police, Fire, SAR and medical. In the news here it's treated like a shooting.
PST did know of him and are considering that this would be a terror attack.
Espen Andresen Bråthen did fire arrows at the first police patrol that arrived on scene, they took cover but lost him. He did convert to Islam, he had been issued a restraining order by his parents because he threatened to kill last year.

Timeline of the attack:
At 18:12 CEST the first emergency message is received
At 18:17 Police declare PLIVO
18:18 First police patrol arrives at the scene and is armed but are shot at and take cover.
18:20 Manhunt begins about 22 police patrols are looking for the suspect.
18:20-18:30 A man finds around 20 arrows, a bow and a knife sheath outside of his home
18:45 Police fire warning shots at the suspect.
At 18:47 Suspect is arrested.

News say that he lost the bow during the attack and killed with a knife or similar weapon.

Randomly remembered it and the trial is over now.
He was indicted for five murders, eleven attempted murders with a bow and arrow, one of which was of a police officer on duty, one case of attempted bodily harm and 13 cases of threats, They dropped the terrorism charges.
They found out that mental illness (Paranoia Schizophrenia) heavily played a part in it and was comitted to a mental hospital by the courts in June 2022 will be reassessed in three years.

Described as a seriously ill man
He had delusions about religious and magical content, believed if he killed people he'd be reborn. Allegedly he regretted it.
