2020 Vrutky school stabbing

On June 11, 2020 22yo Ivan Culok attacked his former elementary school in Vrutky with a knife. One person was killed and 7 others were injured, including 5 by stabbing. It was first mass attack at school in history of Slovakia.

The attack started at 10 AM when the perpetrator entered his former elementary school and began attacking students in the classroom with a knife. He wounded 5 students in the classroom then went out into the school corridor. At this point, the school principal who was also in corridor, tried to subdue the perpetrator, but he was fatally wounded by him. Teachers and their students in other classrooms barricaded the doors and the perpetrator was not able to enter any classroom. Then, the perpetrator ran out of the school building into the nearby streets. Not long after, the police arrived to school and two officers were wounded by friendly fire because they thought the attacker was still inside the school and they fired shots. The perpetrator was found by police on nearby street and ordered him to surrender, but he attacked them with a knife and was shot dead by them, in response.

The perpetrator's motives were unknown. He was a former student of school he attacked. There were reports that he was bullied by other students and was engaged in strange behavior. In the past before the attack, he had troubles finding a job. He also had a record of psychiatric treatment for his psychotic symptoms.

Early reports said there were 3 dead and 13 injured in the attack, but later it was confirmed that 1 victim, the school principal, was killed and 7 other people were injured.

The perpetrator was also fascinated by Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.
