Drunk Russian policeman Denis Evsuykov

Evsuykov Denis Viktorovich is a former chief of the Tsaritsyno District Department of Internal Affairs (2008-2009). In April of 2009 Denis shot up a supermarket “Ostrov” (Island) located in the South part of Moscow and got a life sentence.

Denis Evsuykov was born on the 20th of April, 1977. In 1989, he was committed into a psychiatric clinic where he was diagnosed with “pathological personality development from the group of mosaic psychopathies on the organic basis”. Denis was registered in the Moscow psychiatric clinic 6 and was taking special ED classes while studying in school.

After graduating from school, Denis enrolled into college where he received a degree in “restoration of decorative and artistic painting and plasterwork”. He also visited the “Young Marines” club where he practiced hand-to-hand combat while studying in college.

Then he enrolled into University of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in Moscow where he completed the full course of the primary level of the “Law Enforcement” and got a qualification of a lawyer in 1997. In 1999 he got a qualification of a lawyer with a degree in law.

In 1997 Denis started working as an inspector of the Department of External Security at Moscow City Police.
In 1999 he started working at Criminal Police Service of Southern Administrative District of Moscow. At first he served at the operational-search unit where he mostly specialized in search of missing persons. He eventually became the chief of Criminal Police Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Chertanovo Yuzhnoye District.
In the workplace Denis was described as “a good worker who was building a successful career”, most of his coworkers characterized him in a positive way. In 2002 he was awarded with the “Best Criminal Police Officer” badge, in 2005 – with the “For Distinguished Service” badge. On the other hand, some news reports also claimed that Denis was bragging about “possibly killing a person (if he/she deserves it)” at some point.

In the night from the 26th to the 27th of April Denis Evsuykov committed a crime. At first killed the driver of the car who was giving him a ride. Then he went to the nearby supermarket “Ostrov” (Island) and started shooting. He killed a cashier and wounded several people who were at the supermarket at that time. He used the Makarov pistol during the shooting. Denis was eventually arrested by policemen who arrived at the scene of the crime.

Denis’ father Viktor claimed Denis’ argues with his wife and her father pushed him over the edge – his wife Karine, a model and a back-singer of the music group “Strelki” disliked that Denis was constantly busy with work and didn’t spend enough time with her. Some people also claimed that Denis’ wife actually cheated on him and that drove his crazy. Well, the truth is out there.

Denis himself said that he was drunk during the shooting and didn’t remember anything.  
Later during the investigation the workers of the “Ostrov” supermarket claimed that Denis would regularly go to the supermarket and take products without paying for them and threaten the staff. Since he was a policeman at that time the workers were too scared to complain. Some of Denis' acquaintances also claimed that he was actually interested in neo-nazim and was collecting nazi memorabilia - badges, clothes. It was also reported that even despite the seemingly good reputation at work Denis would regularly break the law (driving while being drunk, being engaged in corruption) but always evade responsibility.

The trial started on the 28th of February, 2009. When being asked “what if he had a submachine gun instead of a pistol”, Denis responded that “the things would be much funnier”. He also said that "it's important to live your life that way that you wouldn't want to live it for the second time".

In February of 2010 Denis got life sentence and was sent to the maximum security prison “Polar Owl” located in Kharp urban locality of The Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. His wife was visiting him at the beginning but eventually married another guy and abandoned Denis. His father is the only person who’s still visiting him. Denis still has a hope to be free one day and to apply for parole after serving 25+ years so he could shoot more innocent Russian civilians.
