The Fargo PD held a press conference about the shooting at 3:30 p.m. CDT. The spokesman revealed:

• The shooter was Mohamad Barakat, a 37-year-old Fargo resident. Before the shooting, the police were aware of him, but not in a significant way.
  
• He does not appear to have been involved in the collision that officers were called to the area for, meaning this was likely not an ambush attack.
  
• Investigators have not yet determined the motive behind the attack
  
• The shooter killed officer Jake Wallin and injured officers Andrew Dotas and Tyler Hawes. The injured civilian was a 25-year-old woman who happened to be in the area.
  
• Officer Zack Robertson killed the shooter.

The other discussions I've had here were literally giving opinions about murderers without mentioning anyone, One for saying that Guilherme's outfit looked awesome, another For mentioning the shooters I hate (in a thread that was about just that) and another for mentioned my favorite assassins (in another thread that was about that)

UPDATE: In Barakat's car, they found three long guns, four handguns, 1,800 rounds of ammunition, a handmade grenade, bombs, and gas cans. He watched the officers for minutes until shooting them from his car. However, investigators are still unsure as to whether the ambush was planned, since the officers were there for unrelated reasons. I wonder if he thought the cops were there to arrest him, like James Dale Ritchie. The North Dakota Attorney General, Drew Wrigley, said that the officer who killed Barakat stopped "what apparently was going to be a mass shooting." So maybe he planned on killing the cops and then opening fire on random people.
