| I was thinking about the January incident. Coming up on 21 years in January.... Jeesh
Do you think that they were thinking about what they were going to do in April then? And they wanted to test each other’s trust. Or do you think that they weren’t even thinking about it and they were just bored and dumb? _________________ "And you know, you know, you know, this can be beautiful, you say you're numb inside, but I can't agree. I think they wanted to steal some guy's stuff and that they'd get away with it like they did with the Rebel Missions. _________________ "My guns are the only things that haven't stabbed me in the back." -Kip Kinkel

Yeah, I think that was probably the reason too _________________ "And you know, you know, you know, this can be beautiful, you say you're numb inside, but I can't agree. I think they were bored, dumb teenagers who thought they could get away with. So why the hell not? If you think you're immune to the law, why not do something like that? Easy target they thought. I don't really think it was connected to their plan to shoot up the school, but maybe a testing the waters thing for future crimes. |

| More likely they had already been stealing computer equipment from school and decided to try the same thing outside.
But it's possible it was Dylan testing Eric. No evidence that Eric had thought about the massacre before the January incident, but Dylan had, and Eric said it was Dylan's idea to break into the van. It's certainly possible to interpret Dylan in Eric's yearbook as playing it up for Eric to recruit him into his suicide plan. "My wrath for January's incident will be godlike" might as well be "How kmfdming kmfdm will it be eric?" and as late as February 1999 Dylan shows second thoughts with "maybe going NBK (gawd) w eric is the way to break free."
So, if Dylan's the mastermind, maybe. If they were equal partners or Eric was the mastermind, probably not.

This is something I haven't heard before. Source? Try here for example: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]"According to Nate Dykeman, Dylan and Eric had helped themselves without permission to computer parts from the school; Dylan's father even once made him return a laptop computer stolen from the school." Though if you mean whether that was before or after the van incident, I am not sure. However it seems bolder to steal from the van than to steal from the school.

Interesting. Wonder what they were planning on using it for? _________________ "My guns are the only things that haven't stabbed me in the back." -Kip Kinkel

Interesting. Wonder what they were planning on using it for? Computing and gaming, I imagine. I figure part of the reason they seemed quite precocious with computers for teenagers earning minimum wage and for 1999 was because of theft. Mark Manes was surprised they knew about Linux, for example.
