| One thing that has always given me pause about some of the survivors of Parkland is when they asked some of the older survivors like from Columbine why didn’t you do anything? Why didn’t you fight?
I’m pretty sure Devon and other students went to Washington to talk about gun control the summer after. Wasn’t there a story about how she brought the beanie baby Dylan got her to Washington to speak on the subject? And I’m pretty sure she wrote about it again a couple years ago.
I’ll have to look for that article. But they did what they could back then. It was a different time. I know it wasn’t as much as what the Parkland kids have done but I still don’t think they did nothing. But I think a lot of people were telling them just to hurry up and get over it. The media storm was so huge and so intrusive that they just wanted to be left alone. _________________ "And you know, you know, you know, this can be beautiful, you say you're numb inside, but I can't agree. | I think it is just what you said. Times change. People change. Things that are seen as acceptable now may not have been acceptable then. Also it was a different place in America. Even things like the community can have an effect.
Not that it is really the same but take something like the Pulse shooting, years ago a shooting at a gay club would have really blown up bc simply for the fact that it was a place for gay people and there wouldn't have been much outreach. Now times are different
But imo if people want to take action after such an event that is great for them. But they shouldn't expect all others to take the same action. Not everyone wants to be involved. And also imo I think a lot of the Parkland people are only doing things for a spotlight _________________ Hold me now I need to feel complete Like I matter to the one I need

The Beanie Baby story is from Jeff Kass' book: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]EDIT: The URL was way too long, so I shortened it. _________________ Why does anyone do anything?

| There was activism back then, just nothing like it is now. I recall students and parents going to Washington and all around speaking up for their beliefs and what they wanted done. We didn’t have on demand info or social media to cram activism in your face at any time of the day. |
