| United States Army Staff Sergeant Robert Bales went off base and massacred a family in Kandahar, Afghanistan. Really strained relations between our countries when this happened. I was no longer in the service when this happened. Killed 16, wounded 6. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]Don't know what to think of this guy. Either way, I feel for his wife and kids.

| I read "The Devil's Defender" by John Henry Browne (he defended Ted Bundy and the perpetrator of the Wah Mee Massacare), and it has a section on Bales. | I remember the extreme fatigue and the confusion that built inside my head after so many horrible incidents, andi know a ton of the locals were two-faced killers, but this guy killed kids for some reason. I certainly think his mental health, combat fatigue, and PTSD had a ton to do with it, and military justice is a friggin' joke, but it is still hard to justify what he did. | |

He was also abusing steroids at the time, and I really doubt that had a positive effect on his mental state. _________________ "My guns are the only things that haven't stabbed me in the back." -Kip Kinkel

| Good point. Roid rage plus firearms plus Afghanistan equals some kids dead and others visiting daddy in jail for life.
Drug abuse in the service was rampant back in my day. Don't know if things are better now. | |
