I have noticed that most shooters wear fingerless gloves in their shooting, is this because they think it's "cool"? or a reference to the Columbine Shooters?

In the film "Bullet Time" that Adam Lanza had watched, it stated that it's for maintaining a good grip as tensions rise and your hands sweat. "Let it look silly, it's supposed to work."
