At one point Sue talks about how Dylan was depressed and that depression, in some twisted way, lead to homicide. It could be the opposite, homicide leads to suicide. Both ways are possible.

Both suicide and homicide share one concept and that is the concept of death. The concrete information that she has about her son is what he wrote, but the idealization of death could have begun way earlier in his life than what his left journal suggests.

I definitely think those thoughts developed in his brain much before that, probably around middle school as that’s when a lot of people begin to experience them due to the major changes and events taking place in that crucial period of time.Same thing with Eric I think his homicidal thoughts probably began forming at some point in middle school and over time they just got worse and worse.
