Even with a decent arsenal, many wannabe shooters fuck up eg. Randy Stair among many others. I was mainly referring to the initial reports of this shooting, it's extremely apparent that this is not a 2-3 dead shooting.

Apparently, he was well prepared.

I think Florida is a strong supporter of the death penalty too. And isn’t he 20 years old or something? So there’s no being tried as a juvenile in this case.

He could have been caught before he had a chance. The gun may have jammed. Who knows? Apparently, his leg was injured and they took him to the hospital first. I don't know what happened to end it. It's true that it's too early to tell. I'm just wildly speculating because this is the local custom during American mass shootings.

On CNN they said that he was born in September 1998 which would make him 19 today if that information is accurate.

Yes. I actually didn't get the sense that he planned to commit suicide (more speculation) just because it's so easy to die in a situation like this if you really want to. Unless he was tackled and restrained before anyone else with a weapon arrived, I doubt that he was planning to die.

My guess is that he was not outright copycatting but I think that it's possible for someone to learn or take ideas from previous shooters without being a copycat. As always, I'd like to know how interested he was in previous shootings because it's interesting to see how often people have a role model or two when they are planning a mass shooting.

On CNN they interviewed a student who said that other students made jokes about him shooting up the school and that he was known to have had guns.

Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel told reporters that Cruz had used a rifle and had "countless magazines".

He said the shooting spree began outside the school where three people were killed. Cruz then entered the building and killed 12 people.

Two people later died after being taken to hospital.

I'm surprised that there is not so much information about him in the internet for now. Usually it easy to find person if you know at least one of his social acc.

Not usually a great indicator. Most shooters, E/D included, had much more than they were capable of utilizing when the big day came.

Found an address on a Nicolas D. Cruz 25 minutes from the school through ThatsThem. News is stating his full name as Nicolas De Jesus Cruz right now, so it could be something. Will try to link it to other profiles.

Columbine was the climax of a series of campus shootings that the general public was already aware of and concerned about. It created the "school shooter" archetype. The "mass shooter" archetype is essentially the same, but slightly older. That archetype was created due to the series of highly publicized mass shootings at a variety of locations that begin in 2007 with the V-Tech shootings. More recent mass shootings have also occurred in a variety of locations, but have become even more deadlier, with dozens and dozens of injured and dead appearing to be a "typical" amount of victims, in contrast to the few dozen we saw in the past.

I think this will be different from columbine in the fact that, theres videos from inside the school during the shooting coming out. I'm not an expert, but I havent seen that before with a school shooting.

Orlando also had quite a bit of impact, due to fueling the fear of Islamic terrorism and homophobic violence. Plus it came during the run up to the 2016 election, which was a major shitshow in and of itself.
