Byron (Dylan's older brother) was born in 1978 - so they were married before that

Very,very sad but not surprising.The majority of parents who have lost a child end up splitting up.No matter how much they loved each other or how strong of a relationship they had before the tremendous strain and grief is often too much to endure.

I think we now know why the house appeared to have sold over the years post 4/20/99.. title transfers due to divorce & possible Tom Klebold refinanced in 2014.

The 2014 "sale" price was $575,000.. that is a $1M+ house in greater Denver.. if not significantly more.

I think they must have split up in the last 3 years or so. They seemed to still be very much together when interviewed for the Far from the tree book.

They got married in 1971 (Kass' book)

Strange! So that means they've been divorced since 2002?

She said they divorced 'after over 30 years'. So that means they divorced sometime before 2011. Because if it was past 2011, she would've said '40 years'.

I always thought if a couple divorced, the woman's name changes back to her maiden name - so is she now Susan Yassenhoff again?

Has she stuck with the name Klebold because she doesn't want to look to hide away from what Dylan did? (Note the point in the interview where she said she wouldn't have changed her name and ran away).

Maybe she is Susan Yassenoff but an interview and a book with Susan Klebold is more appealing than with Susan Yassenoff?

I stand to be corrected here - I genuinely don't know how the whole name thing works after a divorce.

It was so sad to learn about this. I'd always liked to thought that the shooters parents had each other at least… I think they divorced sometime between 2012 and 2014, when they were interviewed by Andrew Solomon it seemed like they were still together.

Regarding the house, I think Tom is still living there but Sue moved out (due to the "my old house" comment). These are from the official Jeffco property records:

Another websites such as Realtor.com show that the house was sold on 04/15/2014 for $575,000.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] Susan also changed her middle name when she got married. Her full maiden name was Susan Frances Yassenoff, but after getting married she "became" Susan Yassenoff Klebold, so maybe that's why she is gonna keep it.

In the Ted talk that Andrew Solomon gave he mentioned that he spent 10 years compiling Far From the Tree and that he met with the klebolds many times over the years. the information from their interviews in the book was probably taken from before their divorce but they might have divorced by the time it was published.

Also lots of women who get divorced keep their married name. Name changes are a gigantic pain especially if you've had the same name for decades.

I would say the divorce and the fact Dylan asked his mother for a gun are the two biggies to take away from the interview.

So who is going to be the first person here to read the book and see if there are any other gems? Is a thread started yet for the book? And what section of this forum would it be in?

My copy should arrive on Monday morning. I will probably read bits through the week and finish it off next weekend when I don't have work.

I felt really sad when they announced that she and Tom have divorced. I know its a difficult thing to try to stay together through, but it still sucks to see this poor woman who has been through the ultimate hell that any mother could ever go through and now shes lost her marriage as well.

And he stayed in Dylan's old room when he visited Denver to meet with the Klebolds, which had been remodeled.

That would explain the 2014 transfer @ a figure of $575,000, which is well below the market value. The other transactions prior likely reflect refi's.. the Klebolds ran a small property mgmt & mortgage company for the rental homes. Bankruptcy from the civil suits applies here as well.

That's one thing I do not think E&D realized.. not only were their families emotional lives going to be shattered (acknowledged in the basement tapes), but their financial lives as well. Insurance covered the civil suits to a point, but not everything & it obviously drained them as it was stated that the Klebolds filed bankruptcy.

they are divorced since 2014. and my impression was that it has to do with sue writing this book. tom and byron didn´t feel comfortable with the idea.

I know I'm late with this but Sue and tom got married in 1971 and they divorced after 30 years of marriage (means in 2001 or 2002 depends on the actual day and everything...). As long as I know Thomas and Byron still live in that house (cougar rd.) but Susan moved out.

Nope, they divorced after 43 years of marriage, in 2014, that's what she wrote on her book. Byron moved out in July of 1997.

Why is anyone remotely intetested? What the fuck has this got to do with this country?
