Well if it’s true that he ate at McDonalds and then went shopping at Walmart or some such right after killing 17 people, I’m pretty sure any jury or judge won’t buy his sympathy plea.

I think he’s got a chance at avoiding the death penalty if they bring up his mental health, his autism, and the fact that so many warning signs weren’t taken seriously enough. But he definitely won’t get a sentence lighter than life without parole.

I heard that if he will plead guilty, then he would not get the death penalty. Of course, there is so much misinformation floating around, not sure that is true.

That’s just what his defense is currently trying to accomplish. It seems most people want to see him dead. I’m fundamentally against the death penalty, so I’m still hoping he gets a life sentence..

Yeah I wonder where he is on the autism spectrum. I would assume he’s on the Asperger’s/high functioning end, which also explains his former classmates saying he seemed “strange” in social interactions.

He doesn't deserve the death penalty, he deserves life in prison without a chance of getting out. I said it somewhere, I wish U.S. had a type of prison as the Black dolphin and he deserves something similar, sorry, but death is too easy. So this girl went out with him "cause she was feeling sorry for him", but she looks like she is having a good time [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Something is really messed with these people, but still, to me they look like they are trying too hard to look edgy but at the end of the day they look lame [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Runcie has had little time to grieve. In a single afternoon, he was thrust into the national spotlight, where he went from being superintendent of the nation’s sixth largest school district to a vocal proponent of stricter gun control laws — and a critic of the lawmakers who he says have “fallen short” when it comes to preventing school shootings.
“This moment is a moment where I feel that the victims’ lives, those that were injured, the community that has been hurt by this, that all of this can’t be in vain,” he said. “We don’t have sensible gun laws or appropriate investments in mental health services. It’s not one or the other. We need both.”

"The Broward County school district announced late Monday that staff at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School would return at 8 a.m. Friday, Feb. 23. A voluntary campus orientation for students and their parents or guardians is set for 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 25.
The district said it hopes to resume classes Tuesday, Feb. 27, at the high school on a modified schedule."

Yep, I think you are right. He looks like the only thing he is sorry about is that he was caught.
Anyway, would anyone send me his picture, from the beginning of the topic, that someone mentioned that there is a blood trail behind him or something like that?

I can't help but wonder something for the last hour or so may be. I've been thinking about Cruz biological parents. I wonder if they've realized this is their son? I have no idea if they are even alive tho, but still, if they are. Also, we know his brother was involuntarily committed to a mental health facility, so probably mental issues run into their family, wouldn't it be smart for the police to find them?

Florida HS shooting is like a modern Columbine, at least I think so. I don't know but this shooting, like Columbine, has that "something" that makes it so different than other school shootings.

I agree, I don't know what it is, but it has the sort of cinematic, almost, type of feeling to it that Columbine has. It feels more like I'm watching the episodes of a new TV show being released, where Nikolas is the main character, than the details of an actual fucked up crime that was committed. I feel like this is due to society's reaction to it, mainly. I can't think of a single mass shooting in the past decade other than Elliot Rodger to have gotten this much public attention, but the difference here is that it seems like change is actually going to be made in terms of U.S. gun laws. It's all weird.

This might change a few gun laws but NRA has their hands too deep in the governments pockets to make any drastic changes. Read Tom Mauser’s book if you haven’t already about fighting with gun lobbyists and the NRA.

Even without the NRA, Republicans would still be tasked with preserving gun rights.
Its a platform issue thats non-negotiable. Just as being pro-choice is non-negotiable for a Democrat.

I don't think so. Columbine had a major impact that spread worldwide.
What made these 2 seemingly normal upper middle-class teens commit mass murder? spawned talk about video games, music, bullying, guns, jesus, medication, etc.
Now, sadly, some kid going postal and shooting up his school isn't as shocking and usually fades away after a few weeks.

Here's a video, where you can hear Nikolas voice. Seeing all these copycats, may be I was wrong that it won't have the Columbine effect....probably, because of the social media it'll come as big as Columbine

Today, I found out that my close friend's cousin was one of the 17 victims who died during the shooting. I've been following this thread for a while, but I didn't feel the extent of the impacts from the shooting until I found this out. I think it's really interesting how shootings never feel, for lack of a better word, "real" until you have a personal connection with it. Sorry for this blog-y nonsensical post, I'm still digesting all of this. I just really hope that bastard Nikolas gets what he deserves.

Sorry to hear that
Who was the cousin, if you don't mind me asking of course?
When I first heard about this shooting, I remember the first name I read, it was the name of Joaquin. Some of his friend have posted Florida's subreddit that they are looking for him, his sister has posted on Facebook, asking if someone has seen him. I kinda felt a little bit more connection to them from that point on. It's weird I don't know how to explain it, may be "connection" it's not the right word, but I can't explain it, the way I feel it.
I don't want to express any political views, but yesterday I was reading about Austin Harrouff and I came across a reddit post "Why are leftists so violent?" and there is a huuuuuge list of Trump supporters who killed people recently and now we can add Nikolas to that list too....

"Nikolas Cruz, the suspect in the Marjory Stoneman Douglas school shooting, had never been arrested. But it turns out he had a long pattern of disturbing behavior. These warning signs include 39 visits to his home by police and a fight on Sept. 20, 2016 that got him suspended from school.
On Sept. 28, 2016, Florida’s Department of Children and Family Services visited his home and later released a report in which authorities called Cruz “a vulnerable adult due to mental illness...with depression... who planned to buy a gun.”
Teachers at the school were reportedly warned in an email not to allow him on campus with a backpack, flagging him as a threat. On Jan. 19, 2017 Cruz was suspended once again for an alleged assault before he was expelled in February. Three days later, he purchased an AR-15, one of at least 10 guns he reportedly had access to."

"Nikolas Cruz, the 19-year-old Florida shooting suspect, is reportedly in line for an $800,000 inheritance after his adoptive mother died in November.
Cruz faces 17 counts of premeditated murder after he allegedly opened fire in the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on Valentine's Day.
Though Cruz filled out paperwork after his arrest saying he was too poor to afford a lawyer, his public defenders asked a judge on Tuesday to determine whether Cruz truly needs it or if he's able to afford his own defense attorney, The Miami Herald reported.
Cruz was initially barred from receiving the money until he turned 22, but Broward Circuit Judge Elizabeth Scherer could order Cruz to hire his own attorney, leaving taxpayers off the hook for what could eventually become an expensive death-penalty case.
Alternatively, Cruz's public defenders could charge him for reimbursement whenever he "comes into money," even if the case is over by that point, retired Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Scott Silverman told the Herald."
