One dead and 24 wounded at a shooting at a large outdoor party in Akron, Ohio. There still hasn't been an arrest. They're saying there were at least 2 shooters and at least 30 shots. It happened a few minutes after midnight June 2nd. Still no motive yet.
still nobody arrested

In Akron, the city council has voted not to have Juneteenth and a few other public parties, because whoever did the June 2nd shooting still hasn't been caught.

Not European but Aussie, similarly strict level of gun control to Europe. From what I can tell, Europeans mostly remember the major shootings like Utoya, Winneden and Jokela. Prague from what I can tell is remembered by those in the Czech Republic but not most Europeans. Europeans know the shootings in their countries but not others. As an Australian, only two mass shootings other than the ones in America are in our memory, Port Arthur, and Christchurch (It was in New Zealand but it still was major news to Australia). After Port Arthur, which was before I was born, they took away firearms and did a gun buyback, completely overhauling the current firearm regulations and stuff. It does restrict people who want to legitimately use guns, but it's a similar idea to the balance of privacy and safety and how a lot of people think it's alright to compromise privacy as long as it's the government protecting them using this data not some lizard. I think a similar process is impossible with the US, but seeing that mental health systems are getting worse and worse and nobody gives a shit about it, I think gun regulations might be likelier to pass than people doing absolutely anything about mental health. Still, I don't think anything will happen to the US in terms of gun control within this century.

15 wounded at a Juneteenth party in Oakland, California yesterday. These seem to be happening a lot at Juneteenth celebrations.

I was thinking about this earlier today. Believe it or not, it's been 3 weeks since this happened and they still haven't arrested anybody.

As an American I feel as though I've been desensitized to gun violence since I can remember. Columbine happened before I was born, and Sandy Hook happened when I first started school so I've had shooting drills my whole educational career, along with a few close calls.

But I want to hear some European or other country's opinions on mass gun violence, specifically places where mass shootings are rare or nonexistant. From what I can tell, a lot of Europeans seem to feel that gun violence in America is the fault of the American people here, in the sense that we vote for politicians and laws that increase gun rights so we only have ourselves to blame. Personally I feel like the government is more to blame than our citizens, but regardless, British people especially love to make jokes about school shootings from what I've seen. At least younger people.

Anyways, if you aren't from the USA I'd like to hear your opinion, since I know school shootings are an American stereotype. Hey, at least our shooting frequency has dropped by 30%, so there's something in defense of this shithole.

evropa needs more shmool shmootings!1!!1 rabbit rabbit

in all seriousness, im lucky to be living in a place where school shootings and mass shootings arent even mentioned here. much of you know about the denmark mall shooting by noah esbensen, and at the time i was researching it i was also watching the news with my mother. guess what visibility it had here in italy (or atleast by the tv giant mediaset)?. a 30 second news article on the SECONDARY news channel..

just shows how we clearly don't give thoughts to these attacks, being too busy on what's going on elsewhere here. although we have less risk to die of those causes, i think thats pretty bad, the last shooting i recall here was the ardea park shooting, in which 3 people got killed.

thing is.. for a week there was much talk going on, but then it inevitably folded! as if this shooting wasn't something to learn from, something thats fucking serious.
quit talking about the moroccan and libyan babygangs that come here to do stupid shit, we all know what we need to do to stop that (obviously not talking about creating our own tarrant copycats).

talk about how italians, especially young ones, are mistreated in their school system, and in their job system! i wouldn't be fucking surprised if some italian pops up with a school shooting, especially in the south, which due to mafia, its more ez to obtain an illegal weapon.

a couple years ago, i had a friend who was busted for hate speech and threatening a stab attack, wanna know why? because the italian system failed him. he frequently mentioned him being bullied to him, and let me tell you, this kid was a gem of a man. such a funny dude, deep to earth type of mf. i havent heard of him since because of that, hes in minor's jail now.

i still talk to him (canihelpyou can reminisce of this kid maybe) but i also know someone who got busted for threatening a school shooting. wanna know why? for the italian incompetence at not SUFFOCATING bullying. its as if theyre encouraging it. luckily hes been attending a therapist and hes free for now (on trial to see what to do with the case).

italy should expect something to come up if they dont fix their shit systems.
