does anyone have an idea what happened with the initial reporting? i know numbers are always an estimate super early on but from 50-60 to 18 injured is a wild difference.

My best guess for why the count for injuries were so high initially is because of possible stampeding and an inaccurate count of people showing up to the hospital for treatment. Not to mention the possibility of the news drumming up high numbers for extra flair.

A city councilor gave CNN those numbers. I'm not sure where he got those figures from, but the panic and confusion almost certainly contributed to it. Like ANOMIC said, some of the survivors probably sought treatment at the hospital by mistake. I bet some thought they were bleeding, only to find out that the blood on them was not theirs, but from nearby victims.

He was found dead in the Lisbon woods near a recycling center where he used to work in the same clothes he had on during the shootings on Wednesday.

Cause of death is a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Maine has some of the loosest gun laws in the country, plus it is a state where you do not need a permit to carry a concealed handgun. I'm surprised no one in the bar or bowling alley popped off a few shots at this guy.

By the way, 12 of the 13 wounded are out of the hospital. The governor of Maine signed an order giving the victims' families free tuition to the University of Maine.

Like Vegas all over again. I hate throwing the "false flag" label on mass shootings but something fishy is going on here, I just have a gut feeling. Doesn't help that Card was in the army reserves.

At least I get that this shooting seems very fishy, but they react this way to ANY mass shooting that makes the news. But if someone helped him and it wasn't a Northwoods situation, then why would they? What would them and Card gain from killing random people?
