Novocaine by Fall Out Boy, especially the line "And don't mind me, I’m just a son of a gun"
This is a black, black ski mask song So put all of your anger on In the truly gruesome do we trust I will always land on you like a sucker punch
Singing I am your worst, I am your worst nightmare I am your worst, I am your worst nightmare
If you knew, knew what the bluebirds sang at you, You would never sing along Cast them out cause this is our culture These new flocks are nothing but vultures
Because they took our love and they filled it up Filled it up with Novocaine and now I’m just numb Now I’m just numb And don't mind me, I’m just a son of a gun So don’t stop, don’t stop until your heart goes numb Now I’m just numb I don’t feel a thing for you
I’m just a problem that doesn’t want to be solved So could you please hold your applause Take this sideshow and all its freaks And turn it into the silver screen dream
Singing I am your worst, I am your worst nightmare I am your worst, I am your worst nightmare
If you knew, knew what the bluebirds sang at you, You would never sing along Cast them out cause this is our culture These new flocks are nothing but vultures
Because they took our love and they filled it up Filled it up with Novocaine and now I’m just numb Now I’m just numb And don't mind me, I’m just a son of a gun So don’t stop, don’t stop until your heart goes numb Now I’m just numb I don’t feel a thing for you
I said one day the valley's gonna swallow me whole (Hijack the hype! Hijack the hype!) and I feel like a photo that’s been over-exposed (Hijack the hype! Hijack the hype!)
They took our love and they filled it up Filled it up with Novocaine and now I’m just numb Now I’m just numb And don't mind me, I’m just a son of a gun So don’t stop, don’t stop until your heart goes numb Now I’m just numb I don’t feel a thing for you

For some reason, Smells like Teen Spirit always reminds me of Dylan Klebold.
Load up on guns; bring your friends It's fun to lose and to pretend She's over-bored and self-assured Oh no, I know a dirty word...
I'm worse at what I do best And for this gift I feel blessed Our little group has always been And always will until the end

Mineral was a indie/emo band that existed 1994-1997. Their songs are very intense/brooding/introspective and deal with things like depression/anxiety/loneliness so naturally, for me, Dylan comes to mind when I listen to them. I like to think if he had heard Mineral and similar bands he might not have felt so alone in the world. The group's singer/songwriter was actually born in Colorado and one of the bands they toured with a bunch from Denver had members that went to Columbine in the early '90s so I have that connection in my head. Haha, I don't know.
In particular, lyrics to the song "If I Could" remind me of something straight out of Dylan's journal. It's basically about pining over a girl but being just painfully shy and feeling inadequate.
Quote :
She stepped outside into the morning air To watch the cars go by and let the sun dry her hair I wanted to tell her how beautiful she was But I just stared
I sat behind the wheel and watched the raindrops As they gathered on the windshield And raced down into the humming motor And she folded up her fears like paper airplanes And lost them in the trees
And I know I don't deserve this The capacity to feel To laugh and cry and to praise For that I live and breathe and wake each day Is nothing less than your grace In awkward and glorious movement

How can I pretend that I don't see, What you hide so carelesslly, I saw her bleed, And you heard me breathe, And I froze inside myself, And turned away, I must be dreaming
We all live, we all die, That does not begin to justify you
It's not what it seems, Not what you think, No, I must be dreaming, It's only in my mind, Not real life, No, I must be dreaming
Help you know I've got to tell someone, Tell them what I know you've done, I fear you, but spoken fears can come true
We all live, we all die, That does not begin to justify you
It's not what it seems, Not what you think, No I must be dreaming, It's only in my mind, Not real life, No I must be dreaming
We all live, We all die, That does not begin to justify you
It's not what it seems, Not what you think, No I must be dreaming, It's only in my mind, Not real life, No I must be dreaming
Not what it seems, Not what you think, I must be dreaming, Just in my mind, Not real life, I must be dreaming.

Do you ever feel like breaking down? Do you ever feel out of place? Like somehow you just don't belong And no one understands you
Do you ever want to run away? Do you lock yourself in your room? With the radio on turned up so loud That no one hears you screaming
No you don't know what its like When nothing feels alright You don't know what its like to be like me To be hurt, to feel lost To be left out in the dark To be kicked when you're down To feel like you've been pushed around To be on the edge of breaking down And no one there to save you No you don't know what its like Welcome to my life
Do you want to be somebody else? Are you sick of feeling so left out? Are you desperate to find something more Before your life is over
Are you stuck inside a world you hate? Are you sick of everyone around? With the big fake smiles and stupid lies But deep inside you're bleeding
No you don't know what its like When nothing feels alright You don't know what its like to be like me To be hurt To feel lost To be left out in the dark To be kicked when you're down To feel like you've been pushed around To be on the edge of breaking down And no one there to save you No you don't know what its like Welcome to my life
No one ever lied straight to your face And no one ever stabbed you in the back You might think I'm happy But I'm not gonna be okay Everybody always gave you what you wanted You never had to work it was always there You don't know what its like What its like
To be hurt To feel lost To be left out in the dark To be kicked when you're down To feel like you've been pushed around To be on the edge of breaking down And no one there to save you No you don't know what its like What its like
To be hurt To feel lost To be left out in the dark To be kicked when you're down To feel like you've been pushed around To be on the edge of breaking down And no one's there to save you No you don't know what its like Welcome to my life Welcome to my life Welcome to my life

Take a breath, Take it deep. 'Calm yourself', He says to me If you play, you play for keeps. Take the gun and count to three. Im sweating now, Moving slow, No time to think. My turn to go
[Hook] And you can see my heart beating You can see it through my chest. Said I'm terrified but I'm not leaving I know that I must pass this test So, just pull the trigger
[Verse 2] Say a prayer to yourself He says 'close your eyes, sometimes it helps' And then I get a scary thought That he's here - means he's never lost
[Hook] And you can see my heart beating. No, You can see it through my chest. Said I'm terrified but I'm not leaving Know that I must pass this test. So, just pull my trigger
[Bridge] As my life flashes before my eyes I'm wondering will I ever see another sunrise? So many won't get the chance to say good-bye But its too late to think of the value of my life
[Hook] And you can see my heart beating. No, You can see it through my chest. Said I'm terrified but I'm not leaving no know that I must pass this test. You can see my heart beating. Oh, You can see it through my chest. I'm terrified but I'm not leaving no know that I must pass this test.
So, just pull the trigger
[sound of taking a breath] [sound of pulling the trigger. Gun shot]

"Bright Eyes" by Art Garfunkel. It makes me think of how Eric and Dylan wondered what the afterlife would be like.
There is also a really good cover of this by Owl City.

Disarm like many of you but the song Bad Company by Bad Company reminds me of them but Eric especially. Here's some of the lyrics...
Company, always on the run Destiny is the rising sun Oh, I was born 6-gun in my hand Behind the gun I'll make my final stand That's why they call me
Bad company And I can't deny Bad company 'Til the day I die Oh, 'til the day I die 'Til the day I die
Rebel souls, deserters we are called Chose a gun and threw away the Son Now these towns, they all know our name 6-gun sound is our claim to fame I can hear them say

"Well, on the day I was born, God was sick.
They all know that I’m alive, that I’m vicious; and they don’t know the December that follows from that January. Well, on the day I was born, God was sick.
There is an empty place in my metaphysical shape that no one can reach: a cloister of silence that spoke with the fire of its voice muffled.
On the day I was born, God was sick.
Brother, listen to me, Listen . . . oh, all right. Don’t worry, I won’t leave without taking my Decembers along, without leaving my Januaries behind. Well, on the day I was born, God was sick.
They all know that I’m alive, that I chew my food . . . and they don’t know why harsh winds whistle in my poems, the narrow uneasiness of a coffin, winds untangled from the Sphinx who holds the desert for routine questioning.
Yes, they all know . . . Well, they don’t know that the light gets skinny and the darkness gets bloated . . . And they don’t know that the Mystery joins things together . . . that he is the hunchback musical and sad who stands a little way off and foretells the dazzling progression from the limits to the Limits.
On the day I was born, God was sick, gravely."
- César Vallejo

Tons of songs most of you have already listed..
But there are 2 that stick with me by Danzig : How The Gods Kill, and Tired Of Being Alive. The titles obviously and also the lyrics. Plus they've been my favorite band for years.
Don't care If 'n' you die Ain't got no reason to cry Don't feel Don't need to Your world ain't nothing to me I'm fear I'm your heretic I'm doom waiting for the number 7 up 7 To the 6 on 6 Bring it on to me
And I'm tired of being alive Spite of the bleeding Bleeding light And I'm tired of their bleeding light Don't try to feed me Full of your lies
No regrets To bring me no tears Never scared of things men fear Never easy Never clean To be a beast among human sheep I am fear I am your heretic I am your doom Waiting for the number 7 on 7 To the 6 on 6 Bring it on to me
And I'm tired of being alive Spite of the bleeding Bleeding light And I'm tired of their bleeding light Don't try to feed me Full of your lies
And I'm tired of being alive Spite of the bleeding Bleeding light And I'm tired of their bleeding light Don't try to feed me Full of your lies
Oh yea, oh yea I'm tired Tired of their bleeding Oh yea, oh yea

Also - as mentioned - Hurt by Nine Inch Nails is a Dylan song, and Flowers on the Wall is a happier Dylan song.

This is a different type of song than most listed here. But this has always reminded me of it.
Especially these lyrics.

many of these songs are actually music E+D listened to, the others are from Columbine tribute videos from 2006 to 2008 and many of the songs came out long after the pair passed away, but since I use to watch those tribute a lot those songs will forever remind me of them.
Eric + Dylan: Switchfoot - This is Your Life Enya - Only Time Green Day - Time of my Life KoRn - Thoughtless, Dead (no not Dead Bodies Everywhere, I mean just Dead, the bagpipe one reminds me of their final moments before suicide) Hello My Old Heart - The Oh Hello's Gary Jules - Mad World American Beauty - Any Other Name, Walk Home My Chemical Romance - Welcome to the Black Parade (not a fan of the band but so many tributes for E+D had this back in the day so I think of them) Rammstein - Engel, the whole of Mutter CD (even though it came out after they died..) Smashing Pumpkins - Disarm, 33, Jelly Belly, 1979
Eric: Van Halen - Humans Being NIN - Every Day is Exactly the Same Andrew Gold - Lonely Boy Doom - Hiding the Secrets, Sign of Evil KMFDM - F×S×C×S×P CD HeXen - Zedek's Temple Puissance – Raining Vengeance
Dylan: Matchbox 20 - Unwell NIN - Hurt, Warm Place Offspring - Americana Radiohead - Fake Plastic Trees Pulp Fiction - Surf Rider, Flowers on the Wall, Zed's Dead Baby Smashing Pumpkins - Eye
songs which absolutely do not remind me of them and unfitting when places beside them Foster The People - Pumped up Kicks Fly Leaf - Cassie

I forgot about this one:
(The bolded lyrics remind me a lot of both Eric and Dylan, especially Dylan. I feel like it best describes his view on the world and how he wanted to end his existence, and having Eric join him in the "journey" of NBK.) Lyrics: Baby join me in death Baby join me in death Baby join me in death
We are so young our lives have just begun but already we're considering escape from this world
and we've waited for so long for this moment to come we're so anxious to be together together in death
Won't you die tonight for love Baby join me in death Won't you die Baby join me in death Won't you die tonight for love Baby join me in death
This world is a cruel place and we're here only to lose so before life tears us apart let death bless me with you
Won't you die tonight for love Baby join me in death Won't you die Baby join me in death Won't you die tonight for love Baby join me in death
this life ain't worth living this life ain't worth living this life ain't worth living this life ain't worth living
Won't you die tonight for love Baby join me in death Won't you die Baby join me in death Won't you die tonight for love Baby join me in death
Baby join me in death

I consider this Eric & Dylan's song after they failed detonating the bombs and went up stairs, had a final shoot out with the cops out the window and then perished.

"Hate Me" by Blue October. Justin Furstenfeld wrote it as a posthumous message to his mother after she died while he was recovering from substance abuse and didn't live to see him sober up. It makes me think of how much E&D's friends, family members, etc. must have been searching inside themselves and blaming themselves for things after it happened - and how Eric was sad about connections he would break and friends he would never see again. I can imagine it would have been easier for him to deal with that if he didn't think anyone truly cared about him.
I actually just lost a friend to suicide a little over a month ago and can attest to how much this song hit home to me in terms of helping me deal with regret about not having talked to him for a long time and feeling like I failed to be there for him. This song helped me through it and made me realize that everyone has regrets after someone they love dies suddenly, and it doesn't mean that we failed them or that we loved them any less. It just means we're human. It helped me get through a recent sudden breakup of a relationship that was a week short of what would have been our third anniversary. Basically, this song has gotten me though a lot.

There's a song by a spanish rapper called Porta, "Voces en mi interior" (Voices in my interior), about a kid who hears voices in his head. The song is a dialogue between him and his internal voice, the voice convinces him to take revenge on the school and all the bullies who mistreated him. So he goes and gets a can of gasoline, emptying it and lighting it up with a match. Talks about how irresistable hearing their screams was. Then he ends up in a mental institution and talks about wanting to kill the nurses.

For some reason this song. The big loud thumps (not sure what else to call it??) remind me of gunshots, and the lyrics for sure:
When you were young and your heart was an open book You used to say live and let live (you know you did, you know you did you know you did) But if this ever changing world in which we're living Makes you give in and cry Say live and let die Live and let die Live and let die Live and let die What does it matter to ya When you got a job to do You gotta do it well You gotta give the other fellow hell

when I hear this song, I see a montage in my head of Eric and Dylan, driving around, playing Doom, making explosives and setting them off, working in Black Jack, sitting in class, going out at night, watching a movie together, clowning around and laughing, this song for some reason really sums up their 1997-1998 days together as friends, before it all changed.

"Angel" by Sarah McLachlan. It was written in memory of someone who died of a drug overdose but could just as easily apply to the mental illness both boys suffered and, in parts, to them cutting themselves.
Sarah McLachlan wrote:
Spend all your time waiting For that second chance, For a break that will make it okay. There's always some reason to feel not good enough And it's hard at the end of the day. I need some distraction - Oh, beautiful release. Memories seep from my veins. Let me be empty Oh, and weightless and maybe I'll find some peace tonight.
In the arms of the angel Fly away from here. From this dark, cold hotel room And the endlessness that you fear. You are pulled from the wreckage Of your silent reverie. You're in the arms of the angel: May you find some comfort here.
I'm so tired of the straight line, And everywhere you turn, There's vultures and thieves at your back. And the storm keeps on twisting, you keep on building the lies That you make up for all that you lack It don't make to difference, escaping one last time. It's easier to believe In this sweet madness, Oh, this glorious sadness That brings me to my knees.
In the arms of the angel Fly away from here. From this dark, cold hotel room And the endlessness that you fear. You are pulled from the wreckage Of your silent reverie. You're in the arms of the angel: May you find some comfort here.
You're in the arms of the angel: May you find some comfort here.

I think Eric would have liked this song.....so it reminds me of him:
This song reminds me of Dylan:
Life, it seems, will fade away Drifting further every day Getting lost within myself Nothing matters, no one else
I have lost the will to live Simply nothing more to give There is nothing more for me Need the end to set me free
Things not what they used to be Missing one inside of me Deathly lost, this can't be real Cannot stand this hell I feel
Emptiness is filling me To the point of agony Growing darkness taking dawn I was me, but now he's gone
No one but me can save myself, but it's too late Now I can't think, think why I should even try
Yesterday seems as though it never existed Death greets me warm, now I will just say goodbye

It reminded me so much of that I took various clips of E&D and put them to it.

Part of me wants to say it's about the satisfaction of not needing revenge... and i say no, that some new age stuff. I think it's a song about the moment in your quest for revenge when you learn to embrace the futility of it. The moment where you know the thing you want is ridiculous and pompous and a terrible thing to want anyway. The direction in which you're headed is not the direction you want to go, yet you're going to head that way a while longer cause that's just the kind of person you are."
Makes me think of E/D a lot.

Also, Chevelle: The Red.
That song definitely brings the E&D feels.

"A Daydream Away" by All Time Low. It reminds me of how Dylan never approached a lot of the girls he liked, probably because he didn't want to be rejected and hurt. It sounds like the fantasies he'd write in his journal about spending time with his Halcyon girl.
Alex Gaskarth wrote:
I wish you could see your face right now, 'Cause you're grinning like a fool. And we're sitting on your kitchen floor On a Tuesday afternoon. It doesn't matter when we get back To doing what we do, 'Cause right now could last forever - Just as long as I'm with you.
You're just a daydream away; I wouldn't know what to say if I had you. And I'll keep you a daydream away, Just watch from a safe place So I never have to lose.
We would go out on the weekend To escape our busy lives. And we'd laugh at all the douche-bag guys Chasing down their desperate wives. I would drink a little too much; You'd offer me a ride. And I would offer you a t-shirt - And you would stay another night.
But you're just a daydream away; I wouldn't know what to say if I had you. And I'll keep you a daydream away, Just watch from a safe place So I never have to lose.
We never stood a chance out there Shooting love in real-time. So we'll take it over ice tonight, With a little salt And a little lime.
You're just a daydream away; I wouldn't know what to say if I had you. And I'll keep you a daydream away, Just watch from a safe place So I never have to lose.
You're just a daydream away I wouldn't know what to say if I had you.
