Reminds me of E & D on their final day.....
Destroy Everything You Touch by Ladytron
Destroy everything you touch today Destroy me this way Anything that may desert you So it cannot hurt you
You only have to look behind you At who's undermined you Destroy everything you touch today Destroy me this way
Everything you touch you don't feel Do not know what you steal Shakes your hand Takes your gun Walks you out of the sun
What you touch you don't feel Do not know what you steal Destroy everything you touch today Please destroy me this way
Destroy everything you touch today Destroy me this way Anything that may delay you Might just save you
You only have to look behind you At who's undermined you Destroy everything you touch today Destroy me this way

Tool - "Ænema". From 1996. Very similar sentiments to those that were written in Eric's journal entries and on his AOL web pages.
Click this link and scroll down to number 13 (ænema) for the lyrics if you'd care to read them.

Tool epitomized the anti-organized-religion vitriol that a lot of young people had in the mid to late 90s. A big deal is made of Eric's "contempt" for society in his You Know What I Hate rants, and how this is a psychopathic trait, but Maynard has just as much contempt for society as Eric did.
Here's a question: Would Eric still meet the psychopath diagnosis if didn't do the massacre? Because Eric's rants sound pretty much like the rantings of every musician that teenagers listen to.

I very much doubt that the people who have come to that conclusion because of his writings would have, had he not committed the massacre. Very good point.
Actually, a number of Tool songs remind me of this situation, and Dylan and Eric.
Tool are one of the most moving, deeply spiritual bands I've ever experienced (that were somewhat commercially embraced). I was a bit sick of them during their heyday; they were played to death. But I always liked them and then later grew to adore them.
I think Keenan is incredibly similar to Eric in a plethora of ways, (and this actually includes, but is not limited to, some of their more extensive astrological makeup [beyond just their sun signs]).
Going a bit off topic, but still somewhat related: in the thread from the old board that I posted here awhile back, their former co-worker/manager stated that they sometimes listened to Tool at work (along with some of their other favorites). I wasn't surprised to hear that at all. In fact, I was shocked I hadn't heard it sooner. The more I delved into this subject throughout the years, I'd wondered why they hadn't been connected to or hadn't referenced that band. I mean, everyone doesn't have to like them, but a lot of what was conveyed in Tool's work was quite similar to how those two felt about so many things.

I often wonder how both E&D would have felt about todays Rammstein, KMFDM, NIN and music and pop culture in general. I have a decent idea
Personally, I thought KMFDM's Xtort was their best album and they never came close to beating it. I think Eric would have been disappointed with Adios. Then again, who am I to say, I like Front Line Assembly much better than KMFDM. As for Rammstein, I really think it's a pity that E/D didn't get to hear the album Mutter. I think they would have liked that one.
Electronic music was cool in the 90s when computer technology was new. I think E/D would have outgrown a lot of the music they liked when computers stopped being so new and exciting.
What do you think? What bands would E/D be listening to now?
Nihil was my favorite personally. Very late 80's industrial with some heavy riffs. Had a Pretty Hate Machine by NIN sound to it. Search and Destroy also happened to be the first KMFDM song i'd ever heard. Hau Ruck was bad-ass too.

I feel like reading through Dylans planner, he really wanted to be a G. I think he liked to listen to rap as his guilty pleasure. <3

I'm going to ask an off-the-cuff question here. Yesterday, while working out, "Godlike" came up in the queue. Does anyone know what that toddler is saying in the song? Sounds to me like a baby dubbed into the song. I've always kinda wondered what the kid is saying. ;) How's that for a KMFDM trivia question for you guys?

That song 'Raised by wolves' by 'Falling in Reverse' reminds me of Eric. Perhaps because I saw a video once where they used that particular song? But, every time I hear it, I think of Eric.

Huh, Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody came on the radio just now and some parts of the lyrics suddenly reminded me of, well, Columbine.. (I've heard this song a million times before and it never clicked like that. I think this is a sign that I need to take a break. )
Mama, just killed a man Put a gun against his head Pulled my trigger, now he's dead Mama, life had just begun But now I've gone and thrown it all away (..) If I'm not back again this time tomorrow Carry on, carry on, as if nothing really matters (..) I don't want to die I sometimes wish I'd never been born at all (..) So you think you can stone me and spit in my eye So you think you can love me and leave me to die

Hey man, you know I'm really OK The gun in my hand will tell you the same But when I'm in my car, don't give me no crap, 'Cause the slightest thing and I just might snap!
When I go driving I stay in my lane But getting cut off; it makes me insane
Open the glove box, Reach inside, Gonna wreck this fucker's ride, 'Cause I got a bad habit Of blowin' away, Yeah, Yeah I got a bad habit, Yeah, Yeah
They say the road's a dangerous place If you flip me off I'll get in your face You drive on my ass, Your foot's on the gas, And your next breath is your last
'Cause I got a bad habit Of blowin' away, Yeah, Yeah I got a bad habit, Yeah, Yeah
Drivers are rude, Such attitudes, But when I show my PIECE, Complaints cease, Something's odd, I feel like I'm God, You stupid dumb-shit god-damn motherfucker!

A lot of songs by KMFDM, Rammstein and NIN remind me of Eric and Dylan, but a lot of material by Combichrist does also. I think if Combichrist had been around back then, both boys (but especially Eric) would have adored them.
Combichrist -- This Is My Rifle
'Tonight you pukes will sleep with your rifle You will give your rifle a girls name Because this is the only p***y you people are going to get
This is my rifle, it is my life We are masters of our enemy Till there is no enemy'
'I'm cleaning out today Now you can buy my soul Everything must go I'm closing down my life I'm making room for a brand new show It will consist of empty dreams High fashion wars and dollar smiles It will be filled with disco bombs All I want is for you to be in the show It's a matter of what I'll achieve I'm all f****d up now I want you to care Want it right now, I want you to care'

Yes, absolutely! I almost put the lyrics to Feed Your Anger instead of In The Pit, but the beginning to In The Pit is so thudding and menacing it makes me think of the two of them walking towards the school with their weapons loaded.
Also adding the album 'The Joy Of Gunz' by Combichrist, for obvious reasons.

I've also always thought "Paradise Now" by Die Krupps to be one that reminds me about Columbine, in particular the gunmen.
LYRICS: look at the past what do you see look at the present what do you see look to the future what do you see you clearly see what will be
growing content in these hearts and minds an feeling of anger that makes them blind rising to the surface the will to destroy shaking the system like an defective toy
paradise now (x2) all we need is paradise now make the fear that will break
shout out (x3) to hell with agony shout out (x3) to hell with misery shout out (x3) to hell with agony shout out (x3) to hell with misery
look deep inside you what do you feel test your senses to see what is real look in the mirror who do you see what you desire make reality
when enemies connect like separated brothers when hell becomes heaven and haters lovers then we will build the ideal place and then lend us richer peace and grace
paradise now all we need is paradise now meet your worst yet build it now
shout out to hell with agony shout out to hell with misery shout out.

Monster - Imagine Dragons
''Ever since I could remember Everything inside of me Just wanted to fit in (Oh oh oh oh) I was never one for pretenders Everything I tried to be Just wouldn't settle in (Oh oh oh oh)
If I told you what I was Would you turn your back on me? And if I seem dangerous Would you be scared? I get the feeling just because Everything I touch isn't dark enough If this problem lies in me
I'm only a man with a chamber who's got me I'm taking a stand to escape what's inside me A monster, a monster I've turned into a monster A monster, a monster And it keeps getting stronger
Can I clear my conscience, If I'm different from the rest Do I have to run and hide? (Oh oh oh oh) I never said that I want this This burden came to me And it's made it's home inside (Oh oh oh oh) ''

Glory and Gore- Lorde
"There's a humming in the restless summer air And we're slipping off the course that we prepared But in all chaos, there is calculation Dropping glasses just to hear them break You've been drinking like the world was gonna end (it didn't) Took a shiner from the fist of your best friend (go figure) It's clear that someone's gotta go We mean it but I promise we're not mean
And the cry goes out They lose their minds for us And how it plays out Now we're in the ring And we're coming for blood
You could try and take us But we're the gladiators Everyone a rager But secretly they're saviors Glory and gore go hand in hand That's why we're making headlines You could try and take us But victory's contagious
Delicate in every way but one (the swordplay) God knows we like archaic kinds of fun (the old way) Chance is the only game I play with, baby We let our battles choose us
No-one round here's good at keeping their eyes closed The sun's starting to light up when we're walking home Tired little laughs, gold-lie promises, we'll always win at this I don't ever think about death It's alright if you do, it's fine We gladiate but I guess we're really fighting ourselves Roughing up our minds so we're ready when the kill time comes Wide awake in bed, words in my brain, "Secretly you love this do you even wanna go free?" Let me in the ring, I'll show you what that big word means"

(Dylan and Eric's POV)
I can feel a phoenix inside of me As I march alone to a different beat Slowly swallowing down my fear Yeah, yeah
I am ready for the road less traveled Suiting up for my crowning battle This test is my own cross to bear But I will get there
It's never easy to be chosen Never easy to be called Standing on the front line When the bombs start to fall I can see heavens But I still hear the flames Calling out my name
I can see the writing on the wall I can't ignore this war At the end of it all Who am I living for?
-----
(Rachel Scott's POV)
I can feel this light that's inside of me Growing fast into a bolt of lightning I know one spark will shock the world Yeah, yeah
So I pray for favor like Esther I need your strength to handle the pressure I know there will be sacrifice But that's the price
It's never easy to be chosen Never easy to be called Standing on the front line When the bombs start to fall I can see heavens But I still hear the flames Calling out my name
I can see the writing on the wall I can't ignore this war At the end of it all Who am I living for?
I can see the writing on the wall I can't ignore this war At the end of it all Who am I living for?
At the end, at the end Who am I living for? At the end, at the end Who am I living for?
Heavy is head that wears the crown Don't let the greatness get you down Heavy is head that wears the crown Don't let the greatness get you down
Oh yeah I can see the writing on the wall I can't ignore this war At the end of it all Who am I living for?

The song Mayonaise by The Smashing Pumpkings, always reminds me Dylan for some reason and Pumped Up Kicks of course too but is a pitty how in the beginning the people just listened to the music and not the lyrics

The first song I heard on a Columbine tribute was "What's This Life For" by Creed. They played it on the news. Everytime I hear that song, I think about Columbine.

That is a really good movie, not to mention I think Gary Sinise is an excellent actor. I've tried to get Ivan to watch that movie with me, but he doesn't like it. I read the book years ago, before I was even interested in Columbine. The book was great too, but really long. It took me like 6 weeks to read it but it was worth it. I found out after I got interested in Columbine that Eric enjoyed that movie too.

Dylan
Remember Everything by Five Finger Death Punch
Oh, dear mother, I love you I'm sorry, I wasn't good enough Dear father, forgive me 'Cause in your eyes, I just never added up In my heart I know I failed you, but you left me here alone
If I could hold back the rain, would you numb the pain? 'Cause I remember everything. If I could help you forget, would you take my regrets? 'Cause I remember everything.
Oh, dear brother, just don't hate me For never standing by you or being by your side Dear sister, please don't blame me I only did what I thought was truly right It's a long and lonely road, when you know you walk alone
If I could hold back the rain, would you numb the pain? 'Cause I remember everything. If I could help you forget, would you take my regrets? 'Cause I remember everything.
I feel like running away I'm still so far from home You say that I'll never change But what the fuck do you know? I'll burn it all to the ground before I let you in Please forgive me, I can't forgive you now. I remember everything.
If I could hold back the rain, would you numb the pain? 'Cause I remember everything. If I could help you forget, would you take my regrets? 'Cause I remember everything.
It all went by so fast; I still can't change the past I always will remember everything If we could start again, Would that have changed the end? We remember everything, everything.
