I feel guilty that it's been 17 and I/we am/are still fascinated by Columbine, which is exactly what E&D wanted, to be legendary

Makes me think of their final moments (aka the suicide).

Yeah, this song for sure. I was twelve when I first heard it, it's still as relevant and powerful in my eyes today as what it was back in 2002. That watery guitar in the intro followed by those thundering drums, the anthemic chorus, and of course, the lyrics:
Quote :
Last day of the rest of my life I wish I would've known Cause I didn't kiss my mama goodbye
I didn't tell her that I loved her and how much I care Or thank my pops for all the talks And all the wisdom he shared
Unaware, I just did what I always do Everyday, the same routine Before I skate off to school
But who knew that this day wasn't like the rest Instead of taking a test I took two to the chest
Call me blind, but I didn't see it coming Everybody was running But I couldn't hear nothing
Except gun blasts, it happened so fast I don't really know this kid Even though I sit by him in class
Maybe this kid was reaching out for love Or maybe for a moment He forgot who he was Or maybe this kid just wanted to be hugged Whatever it was I know it's because
We are, We are, the youth of the nation
First verse always reminds me of one of the boys killed by Dylan or Eric - maybe Corey, Isaiah, Matt or Danny. Just the sheer absurdity that a teenaged boy would wake up in Middle America ready for another mundane day at school, to go from a scenario as ordinary as milling around/studying in the library or walking outside on your lunch break to having your life turned upside down and ultimately ended in a period of minutes completely out of nowhere is just crazy to me {Instead of taking a test, I took two to the chest}.
It's pretty mind-boggling when you place yourself in Eric and Dylan's victims' shoes when you really stop and think how crazy it would have been to be lying in a pool of your own blood, dying from massive gunshot wounds with more shots going off around you when only thirty or so minutes ago you were just standing around chatting with your peers or studying for a test. {Call me blind, but I didn't see it coming, everybody was running but I couldn't hear nothing except gun blasts, it happened so fast..}

For me it's Marilyn Manson - The Nobodies due to being the song of the title screen of Super Columbine RPG and because of the lyrics
"We're the nobodies Wanna be somebodies When we're dead They know just who we are"

I know the album 'Teenwitch' by Bones was made about Eric and Dylan and Bones was actually quoted saying Teenwitch is: "a story about the last month of the lives of Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, through the eyes of them, the parents, and victims." But my favourite track has to be Cotton.
"Find another way Can't go in your room Your bed is still unmade"
tbh I always picture Sue Klebold saying those words on 4/20 after hearing of Dylan's participation and ultimate death.

I really loathe most of that album and personally find the edgy Bones "TEAMSCHOOLSHOOTERSESH" teenybopper fans cringe-worthy, but I will admit that I was quietly awed by that particular song. Something profoundly sad in those echoing guitar chords and the simple but poignant lyrics really capture the loss those affected by the massacre would've felt, particularly from the perspective of Eric and Dylan's parents who I feel the lyrics are most relevant to.
The song is even more heart-wrenching when accompanied by images of the victims:

Songs that remind me of Columbine is pretty much anything I listen(ed) to in the 90's. I graduated in 97 so songs like Zombie by the Cranberries or Big Me by the Foo Fighters or Disarm by Smashing Pumpkins are examples of what remind me of Columbine, more accurately E & D even though they didn't listen to that music.

"Solvent" by Skinny Puppy. I have no idea why. I guess the lyrics just seem to suit many aspects of the crime. (By the way, it was originally released in 1984, the one I posted is an 'updated' version.) I dunno. Does anyone else see it?
silence, the deadly golden cry out don't stay behind stay up internal breakdown bloodflow drip from the eyes incest the inner reason fast life lay in decline sank back in fresh arrival face split with life so why, so why, so why?

Also, "Inquisition" by Skinny Puppy. Even though I know it has no connection to it whatsoever. That's one of the reasons I love Skinny Puppy--their lyrics are so subjective, in many cases. You can sort of make the songs meaningful to you. Like, personally. And you can dance to it!
The lyrics are highly disputed, but this is what I hear. Or feel, if you will.

Anything in general that I know they liked or the victims liked. Dave Mathews band and my heart will go on for Rachel for example. NBK soundtrack, pulp fiction soundtrack.

Even though I know they've been mentioned a million times over, I gotta bring up KMFDM. Besides the more obvious cuts ('Son of a Gun', 'Stray Bullet'*) I'm gonna say the song 'Adios' first and foremost. And the entire album, to some degree, seeing as it came out on 4/20/99, and Eric--upon hearing the title of the forthcoming record--had said it could be their swan song. It was the last one they knew about, but never heard themselves... well, probably didn't. And I mean, it was so aptly titled Adios!...For them it was a final, inadvertent 'fuck you' from one of their favourite bands.
Goodbye, sayonara! Auf wiedersehen!
Ahhhhh yeeeeeaaaaahhhhhh.
*I heard a rumour a looooooonnnnnnggggg time ago that they listened to 'Stray Bullet' together before the shooting...but then, who would really know? Unless it was playing the background on the Basement Tapes or something. Or maybe blaring out of one of their cars as they pulled into the school...now there's a thought.

River Below - Billy Talent Nothing to Lose - Billy Talent Walk Away From The Sun - Seether Walk Away - Five Finger Death Punch Hurt - Nine Inch Nails (obviously)
Volcano - Benji Cossa (Mostly because it plays at the end of Zero Day, but the lyrics work, too) :
"Have you ever felt such glory? Maybe in a lost memorial? I'll never wanna come back from again
And we really wanna be someone Everybody said we were something I wish I could feel like nothing's wrong

Disturbed - Legion of Monsters tells about the media often focusing on the killers of shootings rather than the victims who had lost their lives. This song proves a point in that the media gives killers a reason to commit such acts of violence, and that is the spotlight they're given after death. Eric and Dylan for example knew that they were going to become famous after the massacre - Eric writing his journal for the sole intention of having it be read by an audience. Dylan going so far as correctly predicting that they'd have followers because they were self proclaimed "god-like."

And I'd give up forever to touch you 'Cause I know that you feel me somehow You're the closest to heaven that I'll ever be And I don't wanna go home right now
And all I can taste is this moment And all I can breathe is your life When sooner or later it's over I just don't wanna miss you tonight
And I don't want the world to see me 'Cause I don't think that they'd understand When everything's made to be broken I just want you to know who I am
And you can't fight the tears that ain't coming Or the moment of truth in your lies When everything feels like the movies Yeah, you bleed just to know you're alive
And I don't want the world to see me 'Cause I don't think that they'd understand When everything's made to be broken I just want you to know who I am

This is one of my favorite songs. I was 9 living in Pittsburgh at the time of the shootings, and I remember they also played this song quite a lot on kiss fm and b94. Dad would play the radio a lot when picking me and my cousin up from school, and this song came on a lot.

There are so many that remind me of Columbine, the list would be endless for how many I have associated with this subject since I started looking into it last march. I'm a huge Maynard (Tool/ A perfect Circle) fan and these two songs stick out to me the most.
TOOL-JERK OFF
[Maynard:] Use to be a bunch of assholes that lived in this part of the building here, but we systematically removed them like you would any kind of termite or roach
Someone told me once that there's a right and wrong, punishment would come to those who dare to cross the line.
But it must not be true for jerk-offs just like you. Maybe it takes longer to catch a total asshole. but I'm tired of waiting.
Someone told me once that there's a right and wrong, punishment would come to those who dare to cross the line.
But it must not be true for jerk-offs just like you.
Maybe it's just bullshit and I should play GOD, and shoot you myself. Because I'm tired of waiting.
Consequences dictate our course of action and it doesn't matter what's right. It's only wrong if you get caught. If consequences dictate my course of action I should play GOD and shoot you myself. I'm very tired of waiting.
I should kick you, beat you, fuck you, and then shoot you in your fucking head.
A PERFECT CIRCLE- THE OUTSIDER
Help me if you can It's just that this, this is not the way I'm wired So could you please,
Help me understand why You've given in to all these Reckless dark desires
You're lying to yourself again Suicidal imbecile Think about it, you're pounding on the fault line What'll it take to get it through to you precious I'm over this. Why do you wanna throw it away like this? Such a mess.
Why would I want to watch you, Disconnect and self destruct one bullet at a time? What's your rush now, everyone will have his day to die
Medicated, drama queen, picture perfect, numb belligerence Narcissistic, drama queen, craving fame and all its decadence
Lying through your teeth again Suicidal imbecile Think about it, you're pounding on the fault line What'll it take to get it through to you precious Go with this, why do you wanna throw it away like this Such a mess.
Why would I wanna watch you... Disconnect and self destruct one bullet at a time? What's your rush now, everyone will have his day to die
They were right about you They were right about you
Lying to my face again Suicidal imbecile Think about, you're pounding on the fault line What'll it take to get it through to you precious I'm over this. Why do you wanna throw it away like this Such a mess, over this, over this!
Disconnect and self destruct, one bullet at a time What's your hurry, everyone will have his day to die If you choose to pull the trigger, should your drama prove sincere, Do it somewhere far away from here

Pearl Jam - Glorified G. I know this song was more about gun enthusiasts in general, but it always makes me think of Columbine (mainly e&d leading up to the shooting). Like if they ever made a decent movie about it, I imagine this song would be playing in the background during the rampant range scenes haha

Yeah I've often wondered what song (if any) did they listen to right before the shootings. Also, I've thought the lyrics to "Adios" seemed to fit in almost TOO WELL with it all. Shame that they probably didn't hear it.

Absolutely! I listen to NIN regularly and this song definitely reminds me of E&D. Every single world except for the end with the lyrics "you're the queen and I'm the king" I even remember saying something along the lines of "oh man, so close" lol.

Understanding- Evanescence
Reminds me of a video I've seen on YouTube titled "Eric and Dylan - Understanding" or something like that, with that song playing in the background. It's a pretty good song.

Pigs- by Tyler the Creator
[Verse 1] Geek, fag, stupid loser find a rope to hang I'm not bipolar, see I'm just known by those couple names I wanna tell my pops but shit, he'll probably say the same Fuck...hated by everyone, that's the way it seems I don't know whats shorter, his damn temper or my self esteem I sit in my room and I listen to tunes, I'm amused alone Cause none of the cool kids would let me join a team Depression's on the stalk again My best friend's an inhaler because it will not let me cough Whenever I am losing oxygen, bully hand around my neck Cause he felt disrespected when I decided to talk again I brought that on myself, see I should know my place But not at lunchtime, see I know better then to show my face around them But the day I do it'll be everywhere When I share these feelings finally they gon' fucking care
[Hook] Grab a couple friends, start a couple riots Crash a couple- Gather all the bullies, crush them motherfuckers Odd Future hooligans causing up a ruckus It's us, nigga I said it's us, nigga
[Verse 2] Murder, murder, m-murder the last they heard of you Was when I... "uh" with all them burners, you Think that I'm some punk bully bitch who ain't gon' trouble you Well, I'm gonna burst your bubble two times if you dont mind umm "Who are you again?" I'm Sammy and that's Tyler We came to get wild and style in these trench coats! Don't start asking what's packing in these trench coat Just know if you start acting, I'm grabbing for these trench coats! My step-father called me a fag, I'll show him a fag I'll light a fire up in his ass And recently them assholes been fucking with me in class So I'mma keep them motherfuckers there and make sure they pass, huh My prom date, she dismissed my offer So I'mma --- and toss her in the principal's office Oh, now you wanna conversate with me try to be my friend? (Where are my parent at?-) Don't worry, you'll probably never see them again
[Hook] Grab a couple friends, start a couple riots Crash a couple Gather all the bullies, crush them motherfuckers Odd Future hooligans causing up a ruckus It's us, nigga I said it's us, nigga
[Bridge] Bum bum bum bum bum Bum bum bum bum bum Bum. bum. bum. burumrumrumrum bum bum bum Bum bum bumbumbumbum, hehe We are the Sams, and we're dead -- it's just four of us We come in peace, we mean no harm, and we're inglorious We took their heads but we just took back what they took from us I guess we lost ours
[Verse 3] Music had nothing to do with my final decision I just really wanted somebody to come pay me attention But nobody would listen, but stuffed animals that I had Since I was a kid but I'm growing up so they're missing I didn't mean to hurt anybody, I'm sorry I wouldn't hurt a fly or consider joining the Army I'm hardly ever angry, Roger Rabbit framed me Momma I'm the same fucking kid that you made, see? I don't wanna go to jail, I just wanna go home And I want them fucking kids at school to just leave me alone And I... I hear helicopters make a dip I'm fucking reloaded -- I told you all that I ain't taking shit You better back up before this Mac start to lift up I'll pump it like my inhaler when asthma begin to act up The difference between us and our class is tan khakis I got 99 problems and all of them's being happy

The scenarios, images, pieces of happiness still come. they always will. I love her she loves me. I know she is tired of suffering as I am. It is time. It is time. I love her the journey, the endless journey started, it has to end. We need to be happy to exist truly. I see her in perfection, the halcyons. I await endless purity. I exist as less than nothing without her. –O. my humanity, –O. I don’t know if I should call her, or wait for to act. Yet, calling her is a state of humanity.

I hate this non-thinking stasis. I’m stuck in humanity. Maybe going “NBK” (gawd) with Eric is the way to break free. I hate this.

The humanity is blocking me again. Time to go. HAHAHAHA fuck all. Hate this shit, need to be me, [?], love her.

I understand whatever of everything. I am the god of the everything. Fate is my only master. This is probably my last entry. I love my self close second to my everlasting love. Goodbye. I will never stop learning Dylan Klebold
